P. Ostreatus Top Fruited on Hardwood Mulch [Re: Farm3r]

Top fruited just for fun!  Pasteurized plain unsupplemented bagged hardwood mulch from lowes. Tub measures about 24" x 14".

Yields were terrible!!  I had staged this tub to be dumped and when I grabbed it to do that I noticed pins so back in the FC it went!  Still lots of underdeveloped pins that look healthy.  I'm having so high CO2 issues at the moment too.

Here's my blues on hardwood mulch straight out the bag. I used Eatyualive's grocery bag oyster tek

My high pressure system keeps leaking where the nozzles connect to the connector. The little O-rings pop out over time. It's making my floor into a pool.. Any tips? Not sure what's up, the connectors appear fine but maybe I just have a few bad eggs?

I meant to take (a better) one today but as soon as I got there I started trying to fix it, and 'fixed' it yet again so there was nothing to show. The problem is that I screw the nozzle into the connector, and often it's fine initially, with no o-ring visible once screwed in, and may even remain fine for a couple days. But over time the o-ring gets squished out, so that where the nozzle meets the connector there's a bulging little blue pimple of an o-ring exposed, and the water jets out right there since the seal isn't perfect, and of course ends up on the floor of my grow tent. Often the issue is apparent immediately upon screwing in the nozzle too, the o-ring snags or something and juts out. This issue persist even if I try a brand new, unused nozzle on a bad connector so I think it's the connectors. I recently did a diluted vinegar soak on all my connectors and nozzles too thinking that maybe some mineral build on the threads up was to blame, but the problem continues (though maybe my soak wasn't good enough, I'm thinking about resoaking and maybe taking a toothbrush to them).

Inspecting the bad connectors visually I don't see any obvious defects or minerals that would cause this, and right now about 20% of my connectors are doing this. I've thought I've fixed it many times now by swapping connectors or so but it seems like eventually an o-ring gets pushed out. All I can think is that perhaps there's some very fine damage or mineral build up remaining on the threads on a lot of my connectors. Another possibility that just occurred to me is that maybe this could be caused by running too few nozzles? Though if that were the cause you'd think I wouldn't have 'bad' individual connectors, and that they'd instead all slightly fail or individuals would fail randomly.. I would love to have this problem behind me though. There's often a whole inch of standing water on the floor.

How old are these nozzles? Are you following the instructions as far as the pressure in the lines?

Sounds like a defect of the parts. Have you contacted the manufacturer?

I did send them an email but haven't heard back yet, sent it Saturday so hopefully sometime during the work week they get back to me, they (Aeromist) have been very responsive so far. As far as I'm aware, the only way in which I'm not following manufacturer instructions is by running fewer nozzles than the recommended minimum. I hadn't considered until after posting today that this may be resulting in excess pressure that needs to escape and is thus causing my problem. Ironically, I've only been running fewer nozzles than the minimum to debug my set up incrementally (I was having issues prior caused by non-square cuts on my tubing, resulting in leaking where the connector meets the tubing, and it's a total pain in the butt to take it all apart).

The connectors were bought second-hand from someone running a larger scale gourmet farm, so they've definitely seen some use, but the nozzles are brand new from MistWorks. I've put off just buying new connectors since I'm already too invested in my set up as is, and in principle should rule out user error first anyway. Thanks for talking me through it, this has been driving me crazy.

*One thing I haven't done is go beyond hand-tightening the nozzles, fwiw. I get them as tight as I can by hand.

They look like they're meant to be hand tightened.

Is the farm you bought them from using a similar setup? I wonder if they ever had problems.

Hopefully it sorts out by adding more nozzles.

They went out of business awhile ago, and were using the same system (only with larger micron nozzles), but as far as I know they weren't having issues. But I've begun to suspect they may have had more problems than they knew or admitted at least, judging from some other stuff I bought from them. I sure hope it sorts itself out too, or that the Aeromist guys can help. Just feels gross having a swimming pool with a few caps / debris floating around all the time. Gets my socks soaked through my shoes when I walk in lol. I've got a lot to improve but that's the most annoying aspect for sure.

Ganoderma multipileum

Two months or so from spawning to substrate which is about a month earlier than my wild clone cultures. Could have let it go longer in the bag but I open them up as soon as one starts touching the filter. Thanks again for the plate!

Looking good! Be sure to not let that dry out now that the bag is open or they'll abort easily.

I put them in the fruiting chamber after I opened it up. First time doing this so will the humidity of the chamber be enough to allow them to finish up?

Holy shit, those look great! What weight bags do you generally run if you don’t mind sharing? Finally got the chamber set up so running tests currently to dial in. Lions mane has been the first to get going. Starting a little tan in color but whitening up as they’re growing. Hope to have some looking have as good as those in the near future haha.

I run 5# bags using unicorn 14a bags. Well they actually come out as 4.6# bags because of the size scoop I ended up with. I tried 10# blocks a little bit and I just hated and handling them

Holy Shit!  That's exciting!  How do you slice the bags?  One slit all the way across or?  How many flushes do you take off a bag before tossing it?  How long do they take to fully develop?
