Thoughts on culling some of these pins? If so, how many and when should I do it?
Bags have been closed until now when I wanted a peak in there. 4 bags each with 2qts of spawn. Bucket tek coir for sub.
Ratios of 1:1, 1:1, 1:3, and 1:4
Nice pin set. Interesting to see them growing on coir.
Ime I let the mushroom figure it out and don't do any culling. Usually the block will pick a handful to fully mature and most of the rest are left as pins. I don't have experience culling so I don't have any comparison of BE but it's certainly easier to do nothing and feels less intrusive to me.
If you choose to pluck some pins I would do it soon so there's not a lot of wasted energy. Leave the best looking cluster or two.

IME some cultures are better at "self pruning" than others. Certain cultures did seem to benefit by my cutting back a few, others would abort enough when left alone.
Try it on some bags and not others, best way to find out.

All my various KO's will abort it's just a matter of knowing you'll lose most. Don't bother pruning the myc it knows who to blow up.

Look at all those wasted pins! I don't get them and I clench every time I fruit them.

I like oysters in a frittata. Just put them and any veggies you like, along with some good cheese and make a frittata. I have no idea how, my wife always made em for me but it's should be easy to Google. Damn are those things good, with pretty much any mushroom.

Oysters slice thinly with varying textures. Fry that shit till it's caramelized add a splash of soy, ginger, garlic, maybe some vinegar or wine to deglaze. Incorporate into anything. I tend to go asian flavors.

Failed to weigh the 1st bag i harvested and ate. It was 1:3...
Outcome of these 3 are as follows, each got 2qts of spawn and coir was the only used substrate:
Both 1:1 bags yielded 1/2 lbs each The 1:4 came in at 3/4 lb

My first self foraged wild ones. Kinda proud of them. I'm going to see how they do. Might work them more or leave them as they are.
