The temp range at which elm's fruit is incredible. Those are some summer beauties dave.

I try to catch pioppino just as it's starting to pin. Sometimes I miss it and hit it a little late and the stems get weird and curvy at the bottom making it hard for me to harvest with my hedge trimmers
Do it too early and the pin set is meh

It's been really easy for me to fruit piopinno. like Strom said, wait for some pins to develop in the bag and then cut the top of the bag off about 1.5" from substrate and pop into the fc. 85-90% rh and lots of fresh air seems to be good. They pin fast too! Anywhere from 10-14 days from inoculation.

Farm3r, those bags were a little light, good eye. It may be the temp as everything else has been consistent.

I just rip them all out of the bag in one big handful and then clean the sub off as I box them for sale.

Pioppino varies quite a lot by strain.

A whole flush could look like this:

or this:

With the same method.  It's weird the difference in the actual mushrooms too, some strains have the short, very fat stems, some long and skinny.

Although this was a while ago, I imagine by now most have migrated to the better cultures

Swordbelt strain is what you want.

1st harvest from a p. populinus I cloned back in june. Fruited slightly different compared to it's wild predecessor. Will play around with FAE & see how it responds. Anyone else grown out the aspen oyster?

Hardwood pellets. 1 bag was masters mix, another was 20% bran. Similar results in both. Gonna try the next batch with aspen chips in  the mix.

Nice work. Must feel satisfying to bring a mushroom from the wild into the fruiting chamber.

How did you conclude it's p. Populinis. Just curious because it always seems hard for me to distinguish oysters aside from pinks and golds.

Anyone seen or have genetics from the oyster that likes opunta, yucca, agave, etc. Pleurotus opuntiae

I've wanted to play with all the dead cacti/succulents here and figured that was an ideal choice. I've had normal oysters colonize dead prickly pears, but no fruits.

populinus was my best guess dave. I'm no ID wizard. It's the dominant oyster in my area. also, it was in an aspen grove. think I'll try & market it to the foragers who complain about the bugs in their mushrooms. definitely makes me want to improve my mushroom identification skills. foraging genetics is pretty satisfying.

Maybe I should start posting in here:

Scrabled to put up a tent yesterday for a bag that started to pin.

I have 6 bags of poplar oyster but the bags aren't colonizing well, I may have fucked them up somehow.

Running straight hwfp and an extra full jar of spawn/bag.

Nice was wondering if that duct tubing was acceptable. Not worried about rust?

Not really, they're used for dryers that move pretty humid air and they don't rust.

I usually use pvc but liked southwest mushrooms set up using this flex hose.

Even if they do rust they're pretty frickin' cheap

Exactly. I highly doubt they'll rust though. I bought two sets of 25 ft each so if they rust in a few months I have a shitload more on hand.

They won't rust. They will, however, have build up of a white deposit overtime on the inside of them. They also collect water between the wire skeleton of the hose which causes it to sag and possibly leak on to the floor causing puddles.

Ah, well there you go. This is a trial so I'll see how much of a pita they are to work with. They're pretty easy to change out.

A friend of mine picked some chanterelles, I'm going to clone this and make some LC to spray beneath oak trees at the local park.

I don't expect success, but it will keep me busy. Might make some hwfp spawn, we'll see.

Just went to go check on it and it was doing this already, it wasn't leaking but the line going from the fogger to the tent developed a big sag that was holding a bunch of water.

Going to switch to pvc when I get payed in a few days. I'll keep the flex hose running from the blower though, that should be fine.
