Very nice shiitake logs shuteye! When were they inoculated?

I do 20% bran, I'm also curious how your 15% bran compares farm3r
You know its kinda of hard to tell ha... ive swirched from 7to9 to 10to12 pound bags, ive switched to commmercial strains, and am experimenting with different types of the same commercial strains (LM from amycel, northspore, mainecapnstem, as an example) and yes changed my supp ratio all within the last couole months. Then smaller things like light, airflow amd even the size of holes im cutting in the bags have all been toyed with a bit the last month or so. I feel like i could be getting more on some for sure im thinking tho. Alot of the oyster clusters im getting are a little less than a pound, and kind of similar to wheb i was doing 7lb blicks at 40%. The mane reason i stepped back was because of a study in 2012, and ive recently rhought about putting it back up. But i want to try some of my new strains a little more, i got my co2 ppms down to 550 yesterday and hund new lights (Thanks Strom got the same ones used on amazon like new for 30!) But then in a bit i might start adding 5% and see how it goes, and then maybe another 5% and so on. Another thing, my moisture content is much more accurate now. I was using a saveadrop that had a leak near the handle, because the save a drop was attached to the handle sprayer, the meter leaked, which cause more water than was being accounted to gwt into my sub, anf it cause colonization issues. So im hoping here in a few weeks i can consider working on supplementation a bit more again.

Finally got my FFU setup. Had to build the workbench and reorganize my whole tiny mushroom room but happy with how it looks.

Congrats, looks awesome. Love your space, cozy for an old basement.
Haha farm3r, hard to change one thing at a time. Much easier to change everything all the time. I'm sure you'll figure it out tho, no sarcasm intended.

I need to get my ass in gear and rebuild my fogger. Clean my tent, and start doing the culture shuffle. Summer's kicked my ass and I've had 50 lbs of master's mix just taunting me for months.
How often do you guys transfer fridge cultures?

I wont keep them more than a couple months in the fridge, but i think its best if you grow directly off of cultures that havent been refrigerated longer than a couple weeks, although i have plenty. Usually taking transfers from dormant plates than using the new ones. But petris can stay in the frige for many months ive heard and be regrown.

I just used a year old liquid culture for my blue oysters and its still agressive as ever. I just let the jar get to room temp before pulling my syringe. Im honestly shocked how fast my grain is going with how long that culture sat.

Im pretty sure a good lc has better potetial for long term storage. I think the main priblems with petris is that they dry out. Ive bren using liquid inoculant to store some of my main cultures, as well as some lc.

Yeah Ive got year old petris of King in the fridge too, you can see the agar kinda lifted off the bottom (if there is even any left) could just be a dormant mat of mycelium. Still super clean though Im gonna try to make an LC out of one come King Season. Although @deadmandave is sending me a sweet black pearl culture too.. cannot wait to grow them. Thanks again for that btw. Shroomery friends rock.

I was using slants and they last a year or two, if not more.
Lately been using tuperwares so hoping they hold up longer then 6months. I tend to try and transfer to new agar every 6m, but been lazy this season.

Thanks! I used sawdust to inoculate them last year in April but this is the first season that they produced well. I believe they are Northern Red Oak logs.

This block was made from some of the last grain I had in fridge from March. This quart worked great but I had another fail and lost a few bags for the first time. I also used up the last black pearl quart from March to make 2 bags both of which colonized the bag just fine but only one fruited. I also noticed that my oyster blocks that were made with old spawn have trouble with more than one flush before contaminating.
I'm thinking 2-3 months is about as long as I will keep spawn in the fridge without starting new. 4-5 months seems a bit too long. My LC from January is still going strong and took off without incident. I also used some fridge kept agar from February to start more shiitake spawn that is doing great.
This is my first year making my own spawn and blocks so I'm still figuring it all out. The Shroomery and all of you have definitely been the best teachers on my journey so thank you!

I cloned a wild black staining polypore.
The plate ended up covered with stringy cobweb, bacteria, and multiple colors of mold.
Just to see what would grow on a washed plate, I opened it, washed it off with dial orange antibacterial soap and warm water, and closed it back up.

The black staining polypore mycelium recovered?! You can see where it grew back, and I took two transfers.
20 hours later recovery on LME agar:

Looks like something disturbed a KO block I had buried and pins started popping. Can't really get to the spot easily and they may have aborted based on this photo.
Just had cubes pop, didn't expect them to be on the same cycle, but they've been flushing within each other all summer.

It's been like 94+ during day and maybe high 50's low 60's at night. Desert climate. Got 'em deeply tucked away to stay shaded. They don't seem to mind all the fir needles they are under.
I need to probably figure drip lines out for best results. Def. seeing some cap formation!
