Ugh. Such envy. Whats your spawn rate on those bags? Also, Ive grown Kings many times but rarely do I get full pinsets across the top on EVERY bag. Whats your secret? Ive always just allowed them to pin inside the bag before opening up to fruiting, and that usually creates a nice pinset but I do always get a few bags that only pin small clusters. Those all look so uniform and perfect. Winter goals.

I always get insane pinsets on my KOs and then they abort. Still trying to figure if it's humidity, fresh air, or just crappy spawn.

I don't think I'll ever grow kings again. These black pearls taste better, have a better texture, and aren't so finicky.
I don't wait on the blacks to pin in the bag like kings. They sit on the shelf 3 weeks and then get the top cut off the bags. They really want fresh air to pin.
They will pin around the edges unless you scratch up the surface. I get the same weight either way and haven't figured out which way I like best. They both have their pros and cons
They colonize super fast so you can stretch the spawn as far as you want and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm usually around 1:20 with those

Looks nice 0pti. I've heard to harvest at 3/16 - 1/4" tooth length but I've also heard the flavor is better the younger you harvest them.

Flavor may be better, but the texture is kinda crap.
Still not a huge fan of LM unless it's breaded and covered in mayo and old bay LOL

This maitake is growing so far away from the bag that I had to support it with a used block haha. Its gonna be a monster one though.

Malt Extract powder, ap flour, water, french sea salt, dry yeast. Proof once (proof mode in oven), portion into pan, proof in pan (again in oven), portugese EVOO sprinkle, then scliced provolone laid edge to edge, homemade marinara/red, large sliced pep to cover sauce, fresh mozz to loosely cover pep, brown butter oysters on top. Bake in covec oven @450°F 22min.
It's like a hybrid take on Detroit style.

I found some local ppl willing to pay for some of my maitake. Not a business but certainly a nice little start! Its nice to have somewhere for all the extra to go, I can only eat so much! FYI old berry containers are excellent for mushrooms.

Nice nice. I like paper boxes better but if you have extra berry containers that's great too. I'm jealous of the kings, just waiting for some winter to come around.
You got an arcade hummus?

Do you do paper boxes with slits or holes? Or just straight up box? I'm trying to source a good container at the moment.

Just a straight up box. Seem to keep mushrooms for a week or more. Some moisture builds up on the inside but it hasn't been detrimental. Something with a few more breather holes would probably be ideal but these work for me.
