Cuz mommy and dadddy liked rubbery not cooked mushrooms. My wife is finally listening to me about never eating any mush raw.
Hmm to pluck these oysters or let them keep going. Outdoor is always hard, trying to time max yield vs pests

The sear is really where it's at.
Finding shaggy mane and searing them, and subsequently realizing it tastes like seared steak is what got me to pull the trigger on doing mushroom cultivation.

Hmm I've found shaggy's a couple times but they never looked like something I'd want to eat.. your description has me thinking I've been wrong to pass them by.

You got to be quick with them, otherwise you get the inkster. Pick and cook.
Also, be careful where you harvest them. They can accumulate arsenic so consider the surroundings you are in when picking. In fact, they can be a bioindicator of arsenic in the ground.
(Roadsides can supply arsenic through exhaust fumes and asphalt, just FYI)

Ah thanks, Good to know, I've seen them exclusively in urban environments so might not be the best pickings.

Shouldn't you avoid alcohol with those too? Or am I thinking of the wrong inker!
Anyone know if I could just toss some whole fresh KO's in a chicken stock I was planning? Or should I dry. Or shred like pork!
Still learning my way around cooking them and keeping the textures palatable. (never liked mush till I grew my own)

Shaggy mane are safe with alcohol as they contain no coprine.
Any of the other coprinus species are not.
It's pretty different than most of the others, and was only included in coprinus genus due to the inky deliquescence.

Thank you, such mixed info on them, so I avoid. Just had them popping up all over a few weeks back.

I cut that first bag open more and they seem pretty happy about it, although some are growing downward through the metal rack The other bags have nice clusters but I need to up the humidity I think. They're just on shelves in my spawn/ffu room. I could put em in grow tents in the other room and use the same lights with a humidifier, but it would be as chilly during the day. The tent setup could allow for spore filtration with my carbon filter.

I noticed all these flushes are from above. When doing like this, do you do your second flush also above? And how many flushes would you do with these before discarding?

I don't flush anything twice. I need the space and these commercial strains I'm using pretty much use up the block in one flush. It really helps to keep the mold down in the growroom as well
I still side fruit lions mane

Thanks for the input Strom. Now you mentioned manes, I noticed I never ever achieved a clean side fruiting with that specie.. I always did exactly the same as I'd do with oysters (pull the air out and tape the bag) and they always turnt like this:
I mean, they do grow from the slit of the bag, but also from everywhere else inside the bag Any tips on how to fix this? Any technique that I could do to get a tidy side fruit? Thanks
