Squashed looking and gooey caps on cakes. What's wrong?

I am still not able to tell if my cakes are too wet or too dry. After the 24 hrs soak and dunk and roll I tried to train myself by holding up the cakes and assess the weight. Afterwards, when I mist and add a teaspoon or verm on top and soak with water, I always try to bring it back to the original weight. But my mushrooms are small, look squashed, shrivelled and don't seem fully formed. Also, the caps are covered with this grey-white gooey substance and sometimes have holes in them. I attached a picture. Can someone help me diagnose please? Thanks.

Those look really wet to me. I'd ease off misting or adding water a little. The mushrooms look fine could be a reaction to the conditions being to wet. Either way they will be fine to consume.

Looks like you have some blotch on the caps are you misting the fruits? Stop misting until harvest if you can.

I think youre overhydrating your substrate, mate. From what I understand water logging can cause small fruits. Try increasing FAE/evaporation and dont mist/dunk until AFTER the flush is done and youve harvested. Soaking ur fruits can make them susceptible to bacterial infections, thus the rot.
Those still look fine to eat IMO but id dry them really well and make tea from them to be safe.

I stopped misting until harvest and the mushrooms looked better.
Just to confirm, when the mushrooms look squashed like that, is that a confirmation that they are too wet? I also noticed that the caps are ondulated (see pic) instead of being circular. Is that also a feature of mushrooms that are too wet?
Still learning! Thanks everyone.
