Cracked caps are typically due to dry conditions. And yes you can still clone a sporulating fruit. Nice chonker

You can tell that this is not because of dry conditions. There is moisture on the walls right next to it.
It's either genetic or a contam. There are some mycoparasites that sporulate from the caps of mushrooms and I theorize this is possibly related. Or just genetic.

Another reason for caps to crack is that sometimes they just get too big for their own skin and start cracking even if conditions are plenty humid. I've had this happen with some 3 digit fruits and with not so big fruits too. Genetics play a role for sure, some caps will never crack no matter how big they get.
Not saying it's the case this time, not really sure.

Ok check this out this is interesting. This is what I am talking about baby.
from https://extension.psu.edu/verticillium-dry-bubble
Quote:
Necrotic Spots This symptom is described as large brown spots with a fuzzy grayish hue in the center, Figure 4. These spots are usually the diameter of a pencil eraser head to a dime size. The fuzzy grayish growth covering these spots is the sporulating fungus and surrounding dark brown color helps distinguish it from bacterial blotch disease that is a lighter, more yellowish brown color. This symptom usually develops when infection occurred later in the mushroom growth, when pins are larger or a small spot infection occurred on a pinhead surface.
this above is is a symptom of dry bubble

Lez talk about it? Maybe something to my theory.

That culture always did the same, did many grows with it at the time, it was a serious crackhead. I don't think it was lencacillium fungicola (aka verticillium).
Here's the same culture again.

That time I let it go longer so the cracks got even bigger.

I dunno man
It occurring all the time makes perfect sense on that culture because it's a mycoparasite.
See any resemblence?

I know this is the wrong thread but I really would like to discuss this sometime.
Here is my own entry to play by the thread

On mine you can see how thick and white the mycelium is.
