Are these plates contamed?
    #27308299 - 05/14/21 12:05 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

I sometimes see this transparent film on the leading edge of the myc.

Usually never have issues with it, but im seeing this now and it looks sketch.

What is this transluscent film? It almost looks like when spores just germinate and it puts forth a very fine myc. Either that or Mold myc.

These plates look fucked to me. Opinions? :peace:

ive been getting the exact same thing!!!
I hope someone can chime in because its become so prevelent Ive just figured its weird mycelium cuz when I transfer it, usually itll just become pretty rhizo mycel on the transfer plate without anymore of this "under film."

Have u tried transferring those OP?

I've seen this on my plates too at varying degrees like yours, I'd think it is just a genetics thing.
Usually the healthyer looking mycelium has just a little transparent edge and the real weak nasty mycelium tends to have much larger transparent edge.
It looks like weak mycelium too me, but I'm not sure really just my guess.

I'd say genetics, agar recipe and temperature playing main role for this, ime transparent myc turns to normal white in day or two.. but we should wait for someone with more experience.

To me it seems like myc is growing under agar surface first and then after day or two, poke out to surface and become white.. dunno just guessing

my gut instinct was to say you’re fine, but some of the rings are aggressively large lol. there also looks like a satellite colony at like 7-8 o’clock in the first two pics, did you happen to drag your scalpel through there? sometimes i’ll get myc growth like that when i don’t get my agar wedge off the blade with the first drag but some myc cells clearly get left behind. starts really whispy & weak & then gets thicker

This is some intermeshed mold I think. Possibly wet bubble. I bet if you grew them out they would preform slowly and a bunch of blobbyness and mutations at first.

:whathesaid:
Definitely mold in there. Instead of guessing, take a tiny transfer from the very edge of the clear growth, see what you get.

The first couple pics of the same plate have what appears to be a contaminant fungus growing nxt to your desired culture. Either that or you plopped the transfer down in that spot first (leaving a bit of myc behind) then moved it.
The rest look as though the contamination has blended with the cube myc, or possibly you only have contamination on a couple of them plates.

Ive also observed the same. Normal healthy myc usually shows a small edge of the clear film.

Ya these are transfers from healthier looking plates. They seem to be looking worse as i transfer them.

I noticed that aswell. I think its a contam satelite because I dont remember bumping my scalpel or anything like that.

Think your right on this one.
It just seems to unorganised and strange, seems like myc is losing the battle with mold myc. Some transfers it starts to look good then gets fucked again. Guna give up on these plates and start some new spores.

Thanks for the input everyone. I beleive these plates are deeply intermeshed with mold myc hence the unorganised nasty looking growth and clear film, and satelite colony ect.

On to the next!
