Premature pinning? Looking for advice (pics)

From the reading I've done, it seems like the collective wisdom on "colonization conditions" versus "fruiting conditions" is currently shifting, and that many people now suggest dissolving the distinction and allowing tubs to go straight to "fruiting conditions" aka increased FAE.
I decided to go with the old-school advice of letting the tub colonize with the lid on for 10 days, because I was already worried about contamination (my CVG had been sitting wet in a bucket for a few days before I used it) and thought that would give the mycelium the best chance outrun the nasties.
I spawned this shoebox from shredded BRF cakes 6 days ago, and when I checked on it this morning I saw a tiny pin despite the incomplete colonization and low FAE. I've read this could perhaps indicate the mycelium is trying to outrun contamination, which wouldn't necessarily surprise me considering how I left the substrate sit wet before using it. The tub looks and smells fine to me though. What do you folks think?

This just proves the point that mycelium will start fruiting when it is ready whether you are in "fruiting conditions" or not.
The contam likely did not come from your prepped coir that was sitting for a couple days. It most likely came from the BRF jars. I have used prepped coir that was sitting in the bucket wet for a few weeks with no issues.
If you haven't already, start giving that tub FAE and make sure your surface conditions stay correct

That's interesting. I've heard people say before that CVG isn't as susceptible to contam because it lacks the nutrition BRF cakes do (and something about antibacterial properties of coir), is that what you're getting at? And when/how do you think I'll know if I actually do have contamination? Or is the simple fact of pinning evidence enough?

Will do. Thanks for the response!

Seems like different cultures will do different things too. I’ve got one that will fruit in the jars if I’m a couple days late, and others that can sit on the shelf for a couple weeks and not pin until they colonize a tub.

Fascinating. And certainly alleviates some of my worries. Thanks!

Although contamns can cause premature pinning, it’s possible something else can be in a pf cake and not thrive until it gets spawned to coir. Just keep an eye out like usual.
