Hi
I remember there was a pdf New Zealand field guide specifically for psilocybin mushrooms floating around somewhere but I'm not able to find it, would anyone have a link? I live in Hamilton and Auckland and am hoping to find some Gold Caps and Blue Meanies, but would like to dust up on the pdf guide.
Thanks

I'd also like a link to this guide.

Thanks for your contribution to the thread Roger, much appreciated.
I don't recall mentioning gold tops or blue meanies.
It seems like you may have missed P. fimetaria and P. alutacea when you copy and pasted your list.

Said Psilocybe fimetaria collection was re-analyzed and said to be Psilocybe alutacea...
Psilocybe fimetaria does not occur in NZ...
Psilocybe alutacea is in the list check properly.

Here is a brief overview of some (not all) Psilocybin mushrooms found in NZ, which I do have permission to share.
Gymnopilus purpuratus can be found fruiting on rotting wood. Found countrywide. Does not have a well defined season.
Panaeolus cinctulus is found fruiting from manure and well fertilised areas. Found countrywide. Does not have a well defined season.
Panaeolus olivaceus can be found in grassy areas. It is often difficult to differentiate from the much more common Panaeolus foenesceii with which it shares a habitat. Appears to have a wide distribution and does not have a well defined season.
Pluteus velutinornatus can be found fruiting from dead wood in native forests and occasionally other areas. Found countrywide. It does not have a clearly defined season.
Psilocybe angulospora can be found fruiting from compost, mulch, potting mix, wood chips and occasionally soil. Found countrywide. It does not have a clearly defined season.
Psilocybe alenii and Psilocybe cyanescens both fruit from woody debris, such as wood chips. Both species match the sequences of mushrooms found in New Zealand. More information is needed to know how widespread their presence in New Zealand is. They are found in the colder months, typically late autumn and winter.
Psilocybe alutacea is found in New Zealand fruiting from the dung of farmed animals. Found countrywide. It does not have a clearly defined season.
Psilocybe aucklandiae can be found in both native and exotic forests with clay soil. Range is restricted to the Auckland region, perhaps also extending to some extent in to Northland and Waikato. It is a cold season species, found typically late autumn, winter and early spring.
Psilocybe makarorae can be found fruiting from decomposing wood in native forests. Frequently associated with the wood of native Beech trees. It has a wide distribution in the south Island and central north Island, possibly with scattered populations in other parts of the North Island. It is a cold season species.
Psilocybe semilanceata is found in grassy areas. It is particularly common in the lower South Island, but is found on both main Islands, with reports tending to be rarer the further north you go. It is a cold season species.
Psilocybe subaeruginosa is found fruiting from woody debris, mostly wood chip gardens, but also many places where there is rotting wood, such as native and introduced forests. It is found countrywide. A cold season species, typically found late autumn, winter and early spring.
Psilocybe subsecotioides is found fruiting from woody debris, mostly wood chip gardens, but also many places where there is rotting wood. It can be found countrywide but is found most often in the northern part of the North Island. Mostly a cold season mushroom, it is typically found late autumn, winter and spring. Officially an unnamed and undescribed variety, ‘subsecotioides’ is an informal name.
Psilocybe tasmaniana is found in mulch, potting mix, wood chip and soil. It is found countrywide. It does not have a clearly defined season.
Psilocybe weraroa is found on woody debris, typically in native forest, but also exotic forests, farms and city parks. It is found countrywide, but is more common in the North Island, and is particularly abundant in certain areas, such as Wellington. It does not have a clearly defined season though most prolific fruiting is typically in the colder seasons.

Thanks so much for all the replies, a big help and yes a big newbie here, cringe. I'll go through the guide and the info presented here, thanks so much, was at a bit of a loss as to what I was looking for but i remember the guide which was about 20 pages had a great selection of photographs of all the species found in NZ, was going to study that, but the guide provided should be more than enough to get me started... thanks again to all.
