Silicone is a bitch to work with. Fucking smells and impossible not to get somewhere you dnt want it, like on your clothes somehow. Loving these sfd stckers.

Same... I've only PCed them 2-3 times and they seem to be holding up so far. But I'm definitely not doing numbers like some of you fungalmancers. @Feasoghorm how may runs have you done with them?
Quick question... Are you guys putting these on top of the lids with the adhesive facing down towards the grain, or on the bottom, with the adhesive pointing up towards the open air?
On the outside. Currently at 5 runs and they're looking good

Wait, are you guys saying that you colonize your spawn in air-tight jars? No air exchange at all?
I'm partial to the two piece; flipping the lid upside down and keep the ring slightly loose. Hasn't failed me yet.

Even when those stickers fail you can just rtv em down. I got about 5 to 10 runs before they stopped sticking. I just rtvd them down.
I chucked all my filtered kids except a couple metal ones and run unmodded plastic . Keep the metal around for lcs when my media bottles are full. I crank the kids down after innoculating, if I'm not fully colonized in two weeks im suprised

I use whole sfds with metal lids just for simplistic sake.
Its not the cheapest way to do it but its easy.
Just drill two wholes in the metal lid and then put the sfd between the ring and the lid so it filters those holes.

Fuck modifying lids. Just use plastic one piece lids intact.

I just tried this the first time. Works great! Just loosen the lid a touch when pc'ing and chilling... tighten for shaking and generally handling the jar.

The majority of my lids are modified, but once I realized it's unnecessary I never went back.

We old-school folks with our good 'ol poly filters, becoming scarce these days...

Once I realized that I can make an almost infinite amount of lids out of my couch pillow I am never going back to expensive SDFs that I have to order through the mail. The SDFs will wear down and need to be replaced, which is not fun when they are glued in place with silicone. The polyfill filters can just be pulled out and replaced when it's time to do that. It may be a combination of thin SDFs that I can get here and the fact that a 1€ pillow is enough for 100 lids.

Good SFDs will last a long long time. I've run mine countless times without need to replace.

Yeah
Been using the same (whole) SFD's since I started with the hobby years ago and they are still as good as the first day, only a lot uglier lol I have never even rinsed them with bleach solution like some peeps do, a good SFD is that tough.
Just something I wouldn't buy again cuz I prefer the much cheaper (and yet efficient as hell) poly filters. Not a fan myself of ripping apart cushions and pillows tho, I prefer to buy a bag for toy stuffing because these are usually higher quality (there's such a thing as polyfil quality ime) and goes a long friking way.
Polyfil filters all day, you just need to get it nice and tight.
