Results of different spawn to coir ratios

I wanted to know what was it like to have tubs with less than the standard 5 quarts of spawn. So I had 8-10 monotubs each with 3 or 4 mycoquarts. All with 1 brick of coir. First flush (dried) results average per tub:
- 3 mycoquarts resulted in 1.5oz
- 4 mycoquarts resulted in 1.7oz
- 4 mycoquarts that were consolidated for a month (waiting for others to catch up) resulted in 1.9oz
Overall pitiful results considering most people seem to get 2-4oz for a first flush. I'll be sticking to 5 quarts of spawn per tub in the future.

Genetics and conditions play a huge roll. Was this with a tested clone or multispore?

Isolated clone. All the same genetics.

MS -> Agar -> Agar Pin -> Multiplied to dozens of plates -> Grain spawn -> Tubs. Sure it ain't a monoculture but it aint multispore that's for sure.

What size tubs?
I recently went from 5 quarts down to 4 quarts for 66 qt tubs. I felt like I was getting too full of canopies with 5 and it was affecting size.
Could be wrong as I'm just starting to test my theory out, but I do know there is a point of diminishing returns.
Commenting out of curiosity too and see what others think

56qt tubs. They were 30% cheaper than 66qt tubs.

Try growing out from agar first, and then clone the biggest donkey you see. I'm still learning, but it sounds like you may have just limited your genetics in a bad way with that clone. Sure, it's a guaranteed fruiter, but best to clone from a beast in the tub in my humble opinion. Could be totally off base

Yep. I have 4 clones from the previous grow that I've multiplied on dozens of plates. They were all giant clusters. Next big operation will be using those.

So, from you agar pin clone, did all tubs of similar spawn to sub ratios produce damn near the same as others.

Considering this data was collected from 40 tubs, I didn't have the means to weigh each and every tub individually. I categorized the tubs by the ratio, and dehydrated them in their own labeled trays and then divided them by the number of tubs for that category to get the average per tub.

Understood. Nailing down something like you are trying to nail down takes a lot of precise note taking and experimenting.

I do 2 quarts of spawn to an 86qt monotub using bricks and last harvest on one was 1920g which is nearly 1000g wet per quart. Genetics plays a large role but RR stated that coir was more nutritious than most people give it credit for and since reading that I've really cut my ratio down.
A fast colonizing culture that fruits well is the key here. Lots of substrate means lots of water available which means larger fruits.
This was 2qts of spawn to 10 bricks, to give you an idea.

Here is 1/2 quart "cakes" made with minimal spawn doing unbottles. You can see that even with minimal spawn and substrate large fruits are obtainable, the problem with smaller substrates like this is water, the cakes need to be bottom watered as the fruits dry the cakes out incredibly fast.
