Condensation on refrigerated agar cultures?
    #27304448 - 05/11/21 03:03 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

I had to move recently and knew I wouldn't be able to work with agar for awhile, so I threw all my cultures in the fridge.  Now they all have tons of condensation and most of them look like the mycelium has matted down.  Is there a way to avoid all the excess condensation when you refrigerate cultures or does that just always happen?

Some people recommend a insulated lunch bag or even getting a small fridge without a freezer section.

I just use the small drawer and put my stuff in a ziploc wrapped in a small towel in a box.

I think it's just temperature swings from opening & closing your fridge and most normal fridges have cooling "cycles".

Most things taken out of a fridge will have this effect just from rapid temperature change.

I don't think some condensation is a big deal. I'm more concerned about keeping my stuff clean.

I'm a newb though. Hope that helps

I don't even sweat it and have no problems. The water doesn't hurt the plate at all. Think about LC - that's mycelium growing in liquid which is mostly water. I store my plates for months in the fridge, take them out, cut a wedge, knock up a grain jar and it still works as good as ever.
