Errant loose grains around colonised brick

So I knocked up some rye from a syringe. The colonisation flew along nicely at 28C. I’ve got a nice solid brick of mycelium but around 20% of the grain is loose around the filter and not fully coated. It’s been unchanged for several days. Is the partially fluffy separate grain ok to spawn, should I bin that portion or wait? Thanks

Based off of that picture I don't see a nice solid brick of mycelium.

That looks a bit bacterial but bags often have pressed grain against the bag. I would wait for the bag to fully colonize before considering spawning to a tub, have you kneaded the bag recently to distribute the uncolonized grain?

Ive always struggled with rye with bacterial contamination. However this time I was very stringent on moisture levels, as before they were too wet. There’s some moisture droplets where the bag and grains are touching but the smell is nice mushroom. After it storming to 85% I’ve got the inevitable agitation and anxiety to get it to fruiting. This picture shows the transition better.

Looks moderately bacterial to me, but it should be able to get a flush in. 28c/82f is on the upper limits of the desired temp range and may be contributing to your issues. Shake it up and see how it recovers in a couple days. If it does, then it was meant to be - if not, well toss it.

It doesn't look great but that could just be lighting and the photo. I would just ride it out and let the bag colonize fully.

That bag is completely bacterial and potentially moldy. There are some curious discolourations in there.
However, if you did have a bag with some loose grains that appeared to be uncolonized, they would be fine, that is often the nature of bags.
High temps like that will serve to incubate any bacteria present which will result in a healthy bloom.
Lower temperatures are definitely the way to go, 20-21C is pretty sweet.

Thanks for the advice. I think things appeared worse as I took it out of 28c to a cool room at 14c for a while before posting. I think lots of the moisture was condensation. Totally agree I messed upon the heat, converting from f to c. Heat dropped and will update in a few days.
