Drying error - are they rubbish now?
    #27302447 - 05/10/21 04:36 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hi there,

I need a little help please 🙏🏻
I’ve just started using a dehydrator.

My second batch had been dried but they were still a bit bendy. I had to stop drying as I was going out. I put them into a container.
I didn’t remember to check until a day later and they were all black, moist and rubbery.
Not disintegrating or mushy.

I put them back in the dehydrator and dried then until they really dry and could be ground in mortar and pestle.

I am worried that they may have been ruined by being left in the container when they weren’t fully dry....

Do I throw them out? 😣

Boil tea from them to be safe.
Don`t know how they looked from that container though.
You could have placed them in the fridge unsealed.
You may dry them for a full 24 hour cycle, if you get into a similar situation.
Switch the heat a bit down then.

Only way to know is to test them, for the most part if a mush turns black it has oxidized to the point that it becomes mostly inactive, that's my experience at least.

I threw away 70g of dry mush because I fucked up the drying process and left the mush black and without any active compounds left.

Aww damn🤦🏼‍♀️
Thanks for your comments 🙏🏻

They were completely black inside ther container. I should have taken a photo 😑

So you reckon, if we try the worst case scenario is it just doesn’t work?
Won’t make us sick or have a bad trip?

Don't stress, they are just horribly oxidized.
Take a g and see what happens.

:whathesaid:

If you didn`t wrap them into plastic foil,
i don`t think they`d rot that fast.
Maybe they degraded a bit.

You can always put mushrooms in the fridge at any point from fresh to completely dry and they’ll keep like any other food item.. like store bought mushrooms.  Just put them in a paper bag or a tyvek envelope or uncovered.  The only time they should ever be in an airtight container is after they’re completely dried and ready for storage.
