LC transfer to syringe - No needle
    #27303434 - 05/10/21 06:56 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Does anyone else unscrew the needle part of the syringe to suck up the LC due to the fact it would just be a blob trying to go into a super tiny hole lol

My method is as follows

I boil all parts of an empty syringe and safely take it out and put it back to together. Once it's not too hot and there isnt any excess water inside I go over to my SAB with the LC

I unscrew the LC lid completely and flip it upside down

I use my syringe (without the needle) to just dip into the top and slowly suck LC into it until I reach full capacity (if you choose)

Then wipe the bottom of the syringe with a alch paper towel to be safe. Then screw back on the needle and put the cap on.

I find that after the initial process of sucking it through the hole it breaks it up enough so that when you actually go to inoculate jars you can flame sterilize and voila!

I actually have had success with this quite a few times

I would put your syringe in a jar and pressure cook it. Or microwave it, I used to do that. With a little water in the jar. Then open the jar in your SAB. Had success with that about all the time.
Depends what gauge needle you have too. I can't remember off the top of my head which teo are common, I think 8 and 10, there's a bit of a difference in how they suck up myc. I've honestly only  seen cheap vendors use the smaller gauge needle, and I've even had those break at the plastic part when inoculating.
I feel like when your wiping it off your contaminating the tip.

But if its working,, its werkin

Not sure I exactly follow

Why would I fill a syringe with water if I'm trying to suck up mycel with the same syringe ?

The water gets hotter than the air, and moves better I think was the theory behind it, at least if your pressure cooking before. So it cleans the needle more. And as an indicator even for how hot it is.

Ha you know what's funny, I've been saving my sporeworks syringes for years. I have so many that I've never had to buy a syringe. But the couple cheaper ones I got fucked me when I tried and used them, some of the sporeworks syringes have lasted over 5 uses for sure maybe even 10, I dont keep track.
I would just look on amazon. I almost got a box of syringes, caps and needles for like 40 bucks, all individually packaged.. but for like 100 didn't think it was a bad deal. Never got them because it was going to be yo sell liquid culture. And even with peptone I'm not getting the results I want compared to agar.
I'm pretty sure they have a standard pink neck on the needle, compared to like a light red. Idk
