You incubated too long, or at too high a temperature.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

i don't think a month is too long for an average 22 celsius...
i still guess they were too much 'al dente'...

I think it very common to see piss in a month regardless of substrate or preparation.

I've never noticed that too little cooking or rinsing causes increased piss as you suspect. doesn't mean it's not true, just that I never noticed it. Only thing I ever noticed was the textbook too long or too hot incubation/storage period.

Has anybody else noticed a correlation between too little cooking/rinsing and too much piss?

Not me -- just incubating too long/too hot

Common sense -- what makes waste accumulate???  That is holding aside the possibility of contamination or a *really* bad substrain not well-adapted to the substrate (unlikely, but I guess it's possible.)  If it was the way the substrate was prepared it would have taken much longer than a month @ 22C to colonize, which is really cold.  Or it colonized *really* quickly and has been sitting there colonized for too long -- I've seen that.  A little piss is normal....

PF Classic, multispore.
i agree the grain would take longer to colonize if it was too raw at the specified time/temp.
must be the multispore sectoring. there isn't piss everywhere...
anyways, this is a new strain for me, a new behaviour should be acceptable...
pissy PFCs! =D

Somewhat. The excess moisture is a condition conducive to contaminates, and not optimal for mycelial growth.

That being said, I've opened 6 month old bags of grain that were literally submerged in piss, drained the piss and fruited more than satisfactorily.

So, yes piss is a bad thing, and no it's not necessarily a bad thing.

yes, there's a difference:

rye piss isn't a contam, it's a result of conditions (i.e., incubating too long and/or too hot.)

wet spot is a contam.

Just to be precise, I'd clarify
Quote:

by saying that those conditions are causes of TOO MUCH piss. Piss in general is an inevitable waste product. Generally substrates are fruited or covered with casing before it has accumulated enough to drain out of the substrate and become visible. Piss is simply caused by the life of the fungus. Too much piss is caused by over incubation.

Yeah, I'm a little anal.....
