What's the best way to re-hydrate a lined, unmodified shoebox for additional flushes?
    #27298777 - 05/07/21 02:47 PM (2 years, 8 months ago)

I'm about to finish harvesting the final fruits from my first flush (ever!) after shredding PF cakes to shoeboxes, and I'm wondering what the best path forward is.

My CVG substrate has shrunk significantly - pulling the liner with it - which seems to indicate it has used up a great deal of the initial water. Since the box is lined and unmodified, however, soaking it in the bathtub seems impractical and misting the block seems ineffective. What are your thoughts? Thanks for the help! :mushroom2::heart:

It isn't. It's actually the most common way of re-hydrating the tub for a next flush.

Give it a good mist, really soak it down. You may need to repeat this heavy misting the next couple days if you see that the surface took the water from the previous misting.

You said the box is lined, is that just the box or is the liner stuck to the substrate?

If it's not stuck to it then take your box to the sink and fill up the corner of it until it floats then let it sit for 5 hours and drain it and put it back into fruiting. I get my 2nd flush 2 days after doing this.

That's certainly encouraging. My logic was that just misting wouldn't be able to provide enough moisture to the entire block, given how much water it used on the first flush. I'm certainly willing to follow community accumulated wisdom though — I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel after all.

The liner is stuck to the substrate. I was under the impression that this helps to prevent side-pinnning, but I now see this has its downsides as well. My tubs also don't have any holes, which would make draining an additional challenge. Nonetheless, it does seem that soaking like this would provide more consistent re-hydration than misting... Lots to think about.
