Poo/special sub vs coir

I've been seeing an increase in people marketing special substrate mixes which usually consist of poo and other things..
Why do people buy into this stuff and does it really have any benefit over just basic CVG?
If you're getting larger flushes using poo don't you think that's just your genetic telling you it responds well to more nutrients and by adding more spawn would accomplish the same thing for much less hassle and cost?

they ignorant.
with edibles you use much, much lower spawn ratios so supplemented substrates make sense. especially with edibles that have different food requirements than cubes.
with cubes they get all the food from grain spawn and like zero from the substrate thats why coir works so well. if cubes needed the extra nutrition that coir was 'lacking' people would not be able to post wall to wall canopies with just grains coir and water.
all cubes need is grain, coir and water. you want to add extra shit go for it but it aint doing what people think.
the best steaks are seasoned with just salt and a bit of pepper. people who use garlic powder or lame McCormick seasonings on ribeyes are ruining them!!

I agree, as far as I understand coir is mostly nutrition-less especially compared to grain spawn, if you use a small amount of grain your yield will be dramatically reduced than if you were to use much more, this is because coir doesn't contain much food for the mycelium
I don't necessarily subscribe to the coir being food for mycelium either, though I've read different on here, especially because molds/spores can't germinate easily on it for that reason, it's lacking available nutrient, is my guess.

right. so if the mushrooms are not really gaining anything from the coir beyond that water???? why am i buying these additives??
it'd be like eating a bowl of lucky charms but using chocolate milk for extra flavor. all the flavor is in the lucky charms the milk is just for hydration. flavoring the milk would be fucking gross

Mycelium can colonize cardboard which has no nutrient content, that's what mycelium does is reach and search for food source, it can survive for surprisingly a long time without any additional nutrient as the energy used to colonize is much less than it is used to form fruit bodies.

I don't use cardboard just got me thinking how it can colonize something that has no available food source, because it's searching for food, or is it opposite and it requires a food source in order to colonize? The cellulose in the cardboard is enough for it to eat and maintain growth?
If mushrooms are mostly water content, what exactly is the mechanism outside of genetics that causes them to produce a heavier, more prolific flush? Does the available nutrition level trigger the organism to produce more fruit bodies, and the water content supports their growth?
