Birth or not? Straight verm casing
    #2729806 - 05/25/04 10:55 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Ok you can finally see my grow ha, this is 12 pf cakes, cased in straight verm saturday night. 1/3 inch perlite at the bottom. I am putting this container inside a larger terrarium tomorrow and I am wondering if it is time to birth or if it should stay covered and with no light.
I believe there is 1/2" inch casing layer, which is not very thick.

Now, I don't have it in front of me to examine, because it's at by buds. But I did get some pictures, hopefully you can tell me what you think

The reason I ask on here, is that I cannot check it out close up, and also, I have no experience with this and unlike with something darker like coir it is harder to see mycelium growth.

Anyways here it is, tell me what you think

sorry my friend doesnt really know how to focus a camera

enjoy, help would be appreciated, I figure birthing tomorrow will be fine

(btw I was just reading my post over, and I cased Saturday night, but these pics are from an hour ago)

You birth cakes not casings. But yes that looks like it is ready for you to start fruiting. Also I was wondering why you put perlite on the bottom. I've heard of vermiculite on the bottom, perlite is not needed whatsoever. Casings usually keep their humidity pretty good by themselves, as for the the tub or whatever you have your casing containers in, you can put perlite on the bottom of the tub to keep humidity up. Best of luck.

Also, I was advising against perlite in the bottom of the casing container because it will wick moisture and in the long run cause contamination.

Heh, I know finally

Newfoundfreedom: I read of people using it for drainage and my friend is somewhat lazy about misting so I wanted to give a bit more moisture.
Also, originally I had planned on having smaller seperate casings inside of a larger tub but I decided to do this big (well, in comparison) casing. I was going to have perlite on the bottom then, but when it came time to case I realized things were not going to work so I just went for it and did this. Hopefully it wont promote contams and I will remember for next time.

How long do you think it will be till pins?

Well, if you get the casings in the tub tommorrow and go ahead and drop the temp and lower humidity to around 90%, you should be seeing pins in maybe a week or so.

Edit: Make sure you give em light, and fan.
