Good to see the 2021 is underway!
Went for a geeze last week and found me some beauts.
This is like the only thing to get excited about in winter lol.

North. As for temps, they do still need to drop somewhat for the season to really kick off.

And finally....., the best time of the year is upon us
I always look forward to winter, and for one very good reason

Question for the seasoned hunters...
Last season was my first season hunting a lot and I found a fair few spots where I might find 2-3 subs in an area or a lonely sub under a tree! Do patches expand season on season? Or do they remain the same size?

My experience is that they tend to stay the same size. but it is relative. it is quite common to get them occurring in groups with another group nearby. If you find them at the top of a valley follow the valley. the spores tend to move down the valley on air currents.

Found in the south (really quite a way south). I had been scouring the paddocks to no avail. Decided to collect some pinecones as kindling before the sun went down. I collected my pinecones and decided to sit on a log. Minding my own business, I spotted them: a million of these little nointers right by my side. My first ever find.

To my knowledge they are only in paddocks on the mainland, different species.
All my finds down here have been in decaying matter (pine trees, gum trees etc) or under bracken. You'd be amazed how many I have found by the side of the road!!

Subs galore. Just picked the best caps today, there were literally hundreds of pins and rotten specimens... so good!

Oh lord the things I'd do to find a spot as good as that...
After many checks from mid april my spot has finally shown something... just a few pins. kunanyi / Mt Wellington foothills 5/05/21. My other spot which has many fruiting was being raided

There are plenty of places to find actives in the thousands in TAS just have to research, google earth is your friend, easiest way to spot fallen trees/patches of bracken in gullies and reserves etc. I'd remove your location photo as well friend, I know exactly where that is and someone else who has been picking the south for a while would be able to pick it out as well.

A little trick I have found very handy using google maps is to click on the button at the bottom to show which streets have street view, or in other words are public roads that you can access!!

Good advice! But a lot of public roads in TAS, typically in remote areas that are gravel/dirt and public access still dont have streetview or only go a certain distance up the road, still a very useful tool though.</font>

You've motivated me Trippy - they are some beautiful specimens!
May have to venture out this weekend for a look-see at my favourite spot from last year. It was very fruitful .

Was dropping off something for someone on gumtree and found these beside there door in a bed of woodchips. I quickly snatched them up. I know taking pins is frowned upon, but I can't imagine these were ever going to be used. These were found in the North.

Go to Bunnings, get a bag of euci-mulch ($9 for 50l) and bury those stubs with the myc on it, water it and you might end up with your own patch!

Any chance they were grown by the owners on purpose dude? That's a pretty shittythingtodo imo regardless.

Nah I'm 99% sure. it was a very large garden bed with numerous species of mushrooms popping up. Have also spoken to the owners afterward and they didn't mention anything. I also left heaps of baby pins. I wouldn't have taken them if they were obviously being grown.

Lost my account from last year. Sad. I'm glad the shroomery came back up online just in time! Great photos everyone.
My favourite spot got logged and completely cleared
I've been out for a handful of forages recently. I think it has only recently started being cold and wet enough. I saw thousands of pins this morning - need to head back out next week - but still collected around 600g wet at around 800m asl in cleared pines. One of my other spots at around 400m had nothing last week. Definitely have enough now and don't need to go out any more... But love the hunt!
I am always interested in the Pine specimens because sometimes the gills are dark purple but other times tan to yellow. Maybe due to age/decay/amount of spores dropped? Also a lot oflookalike galerinas out as well, almost got fooled a few times until seeing the orange gills/stem and the ring under the gills.
