That mycelium is probably healthy, just growing THROUGH the agar instead of on top of it.

Make a new batch of agar and you can probably just transfer that clear sample to a new dish and I have a feeling it will look normal once it grows out.

How does that end up happening? 0.o
Im also curious on nutrients and what the best recipe is.
So far I have agar and "Light Dried Malt Extract" on the way.. Is there any other ingredients I should be ordering?
Im still very confused on the actual agar ingredients and amounts because the thread on agar recipes assumes you understand a bunch acronyms which I dont and doesnt make it too easy to tell how much of what to put in there
this is the thread im referencing: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18676888

"1) Malt-extract: 10g LME(a) / GLME (b), 10g agar

Pictured here is GLMEA, it works great, pretty much the standard I judge media against."

Like this is what im trying to make but im completely lost as to what the ingredient list is

Very simple recipe using the ingredients I linked to you in the other thread.

500ml distilled water
10g agar
7g LME

PDA potato dextrose agar
Anytime you see Y it usually means yeast or nutritional yeast
GSW is grain soak water. (Use the water that you soaked grains in. Diluted of course)

LME light malt extract
DLME dried light malt extract
ELME extra light

If you do some transfers from this plate to new ones, I'm hoping you'll keep this plate to see what it becomes.

That's better. Did you end up making a new batch of agar? If so, what was the new recipe you went with?

That does not seem like enough neuts. The PDYA recipe in Frank's recipe book that he says is his favorite recipe (at the time, at least) was:

10g agar
10g potatoe
7g dextrose
1g nutritional yeast
500ml water

Another way to look at it is % neuts using the ml of water. So 5g potato flakes is only 1% neuts and most people use 2-3%.

Sometimes it's your recipe. Sometimes it just be like that. Especially with germ plates. Just transfer until clean.
I've made grain water agar that would get growth like this. I cleaned the cultures and put them to grain. They thickened up in the jars and fruited just fine. Pretty plates are pleasant but not the end game.

Of course with consistent looking mycelium on agar. It is easier to see contamination and easier to see sectoring.

I need to do some reading on this, haha. Don't have any yeast or dextrose atm. Thanks, maybe I'll try this recipe tonight, and change it up if it doesn't work out.

500 ml water
10g potato flakes
10g agar
a few drops of honey or corn syrup

That sounds like it'll probably get the job done

Dextrose is kinda a pain in the ass, I couldn't find anything less than a pound of it and all I need is 7g at a time lol

not a few drops of honey, with that recipe you need 10 grams of sugars for regular PDA recipe...

a few drops of honey you be right where you started with too low sugar ratio

This happens to me from time to time with germ plates. You may even notice this kind of growth forming what looks like a halo around the perimeter of your culture, it's just mycelium.

I always use the standard recipe of 10gr agar, 10gr LME 500ml h20, and then double it.

I'm not sure that it's much more than that, your mycelium just hasn't "filled in" yet. People may say that softer agar would be better for germ, but this happens infrequently ime.

If you transfer that growth to a new plate you'll have no issue, so long as it's clean.

Edit:

This happens every time I've ever tried to use grain soak water for nutes.
