LC leaking through syringe filter?

Made LCs with syringe filter lids, siliconed so it’s air tight.
Shook vigorously upside down to see if any liquid leaks, I believe it’s coming out of the syringe filter. It takes a lot of shaking to get liquid out.
Should anything be coming through the syringe filter or is it just not supposed to be shaken that hard? I’m now wondering if I should replace the syringe filters as they’ve gotten wet even though I was about to PC them.

I wouldn't shake a LC to the point of getting any gas exchange filter wet

Yeah I didn’t really think about it at first just wanted to check they were leak free ... guessing I should switch them out?

You bought hydrophillic filters when you should be using hydrophobic filters. Whoops.

https://www.thermofisher.com/order/catalog/product/CH2225-NP#/CH2225-NP
examples of the different types
note they both have a PTFE membrane but one is labeled as hydrophilic and the other one is hydrophobic and will only allow aqueous transfer if it is wet with alcohol first. So look for the label of hydrophobic to be sure.

Do these filters exist solely to allow one to aspirate LC? I know they allow for gas exchange also, but the only LC's I've made thus far were done with unmodded lids and performed well.

Yes they are mainly to prevent vacuum from forming when cooked and aspirated, but they also let you fully tilt to aspirate without leaking provided you use hydrophobic filters.
