Mycelial death or trich cohabitation?

This may be a dumb question - Trich is obviously on the top of the cake. The bottom of the cake is white mixed with blue discoloration. Is this more than likely:
1) Mycelium dying as a result of dry fruiting environment causing a bluing and secondary opportunistic trich attack on the top or
2) Cohabitation of trich and pan mycelium arising from improper pasturization/sterilization?

Thanks for your thoughts

It is more likely that your spawn was dirty from the get go.
Trich before first flush = dirty spawn.
Could be from improper sterilization, but more likely is just from a mistake in sterile technique.

Okay that makes sense - Thanks I will stick to sterilizing the substrate and knock it up in sterile conditions, rather than opting for pasturization, because I know that plastic bagged cow poo was packed with trich

It depends on your substrate composition if it warrants sterilization or pasteurization. If you add 'nutrients' in your sub, then sterilization.
Sterilizing your sub when it really needs pasteurization is a recipe for failure.

The substrate composition is composted cow manure, vermiculite and gypsum. My pan jars look nice and healthy though. I think maybe I might not be knocking off all that mould in the cow poo though. My reason for sterilization is that Asura and Blue Helix had such amazing results with it.

Not really, horse dung and straw are both pasteurized and they are nutrient based substrates, it's important you pasteurize correctly though.
