Pros and cons to no pours and petri dishes.

I like petris because I'm a newb and like to see what I'm doing. If I can learn to pour them in a sab (takes practice) anyone can.

The no pours are great too because you can keep reusing them and they are convenient to get.

I'd recommend to try both if possible.

yes, absolutely do some research! iโ€™ve never poured plates personally so i canโ€™t be of too much help there, but from what i gather your sterile game needs to be pretty tight to pour plates in an SAB. iโ€™ve always preferred the idea of no pours, as i trust my pressure cooker much more than my sterile technique. not impossible to pull off by any means tho, & you might as well try it since you already have the plates. i think bod has some videos on how to pour/wrap petris (pretty sure you always have to wrap them with seran wrap to prevent contams from getting in)

So I tried to get the clearest and closest pic that I could. Mold or mycelium?

and like, if it is mold, it should change color or something in a few days that will make it stand out significantly from myc right? Like are there any white molds that just stay looking like mushroom mycelium?

Still hard to see, but I see enough to bet on mycelium. Molds that gain color upon maturity typically look more like Christmas tree flock in the beginning. There are molds that stay white, but they don't grow quite like that. They usually have the flocked look as well.

That bright green agar isn't doing you any favors as far as visibility, but I'm gonna say mold.

Thank you.
I left a blank plate open in my SAB all day yesterday during two different sessions of working in it. Im watching my 2 other controls too and still no mold of any kind. 2 small dots of very similar looking bacteria (or yeast, idk its orange and slimy) on both of them that are growing very very slowly but absolutely no mold.
I just dont see every single one of my plates getting mold except the controls lol. Like that would be some pretty seriously insane odds id think

yea i hear that, these preboughts are shit. Im an idiot lol. Thank god I have a PC now. Im just waiting on some media bottles and im gonna make my own plates.
ill keep an eye on it for sure. Im not going to trick myself and only listen to what I want to hear so Im definitely taking ur opinion/vote into account as well as the TCs whos responded as far.
Im gonna let them grow out til one pins/changes colors/or becomes obvious that it isnt mushmyc before trying to putting to grain or Lc or wasting a bunch of plates on transfers so i know for sure.

iโ€™ve had myc that looks like that sometimes, so i donโ€™t think youโ€™re totally fucked. it could be a nutrients thing causing it to grow more tomentose & weird looking, could have a contam riding with it, but i couldnโ€™t say for sure what it would be. iโ€™d just let it keep growing out & see what it does

One of my controls has a very similar looking spot that showed up this morning :frown: im really really praying that it grows out and ends up a totally different color or something and this isnt the confirmation that all my plates are fked.

Relax dude. Take transfers if you can.
Nothing you can do about contams, this isn't an emergency.

Peace

just let your plates grow out a bit. theyโ€™ll tell you real quick if they are mold or not lol. personally i think youโ€™re fine, but it is weird that there is a similar spot on a control plate. iโ€™ve found trich to start off as little white satellite colonies before bursting into a green mess a few days later. the trich spots usually arenโ€™t as fluffy as the myc tends to be tho

For sure, im defenitily going to let them all grow out a bit. From the transfers ive done im noticing a pattern that the myc that grows from the transfer of these guys is thick, ryzmorhpic, pretty mycelium. Looks like it didnt even come from these plates lol. So maybe its just really weak from spore?
So long as there arent any exact copy cats that look exactly like myc theyre whole life cycle but just arent cube myc I think ill be able to tell the difference once its grow out.
Ive been combing throu other grow logs and I see a lot of myc that looks extreamly similar to mine before their first transfer so I think im alright. Im sure a few of them are contamed but I dont think its a total meltdown like I thought at first lol.

The tiny spot on the control so far litterly just looks like a barely visible spec of white dust so its totally too early to tell but it kind of has the same whispy look to it. Ill be keeping an eye but I think i have plenty of good myc to transfer from and get cleaner samples. Im not totally fuckd yet lol. I dont think anyway im not out of the woods yet, ill know for sure in a few days.

iโ€™ve noticed that too, my spore germination plates tend to be a lot fuzzier than the transfers for whatever reason. if youโ€™re seeing good growth off the transfers i think things are looking good (:
