Is 13 PSI enough for pressure cooking whole grains?
    #2729390 - 05/25/04 09:22 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hi all. I am curious if a 10 or 13 psi PC would be sufficient to properly sterilize whole grains (popcorn) and BRF jars?

Thanks.

Might even try fractional sterilization.

It should work but be sure to soak grains first, and definetly cook them longer. 2 hours minimum I would say, depends on the size of the jar.

Yes and no. Some people get away just fine without them, at least you will have a better means of sterilization than simply boiling or steaming. But at 15psi there is a greater chance you kill all the bacteria...

I have used a 10psi cooker with great success. I only cooked the jars for 1 hour and almost never got contams. It should work fine.
