Short Fruits?
    #27284880 - 04/28/21 08:52 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Ive been using PastyWhites modified tubs with success however lately Ive been having issues with the fruits, they are really short and dont fully flush. Is this a contam issue or a FAE cuz I havent changed my setup except for humidity slightly increasing due to having more tubs in the same area.

Thanks!

Genetics. Try agar and you'll have a more even flush, and hopefully taller fruits

The is an monoculture that has fruited better in the past. That is why I am wondering if it is a contam issue

I dont think thats a monoculture, I can clearly see at least 2 very different  sectors there

Kind of looks like the substrate may be over FC...if not, genetics is where I would focus my efforts.

FAE looks good, but that can be misleading since there are so few fruit to create humidity.  Typically FAE issues will show up with fuzzy feet and/or spindly growth.

Was that agar originally inoculated from spore or tissue clone?  It looks clean, but it may have just been a bad roll of the genetics dice if it was from spore.  If it was from a clone that performed well previously, I would doublecheck your environment to see what changed in regards to this tub.

Yea it has preformed well in the past so Im assuming it was environment. And yes, I did 5 times the weight of the coir for the amount of water, so perhaps that is too much. My humidity is around 44% so maybe its too moist there.

Lower left of the plate looks like enmeshed mold.

Yeah, could be. When I did 5:1 water:coir, my fruits were also really small. You really have to check for field capacity. My coir is ideal, when I add 3.25 times water to it.

Always squeeze test your coir batches for FC - it should barely drip when firmly squeezed in your hand.  I typically use about 1 gallon of water per KG of coco and fine tune from there, but different brands/grades will vary in how much water they can absorb.
