[CA] Rangers find 40-acre marijuana grow in Death Valley National Park

Rangers find 40-acre marijuana grow in Death Valley National Park
Associated Press - April 30, 2021

DEATH VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — Federal park rangers have discovered a large illegal marijuana grow in Death Valley National Park near the border between California and Nevada, authorities said Friday.

The 40-acre (16.19-hectare) grow was found in Jail Canyon, a rarely visited canyon on the western side of the Panamint Mountains, the National Park Service said in a news release.

The illegal grow is one of hundreds that authorities have found in Death Valley over the last decade, officials said, and marijuana grow sites can damage or destroy parts of the national park.

While California legalized marijuana in 2016, it remains prohibited on federal lands.

Death Valley National Park is roughly 200 miles (321.87 kilometers) northeast of Los Angeles. It is the hottest and driest national park, as well as the lowest in elevation. The Timbisha Shoshone Tribe’s reservation is within the park.

“The natural and cultural resources in these areas are irreplaceable and invaluable, damaging them for profit shows incredible disrespect to our homeland,” Barbara Durham, Traditional Historic Preservation Officer for the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe, said in the release.

Very good question. Perhaps because it's isolated, away from prying eyes.
But, I would think it would be too dry and way too hot an area for growing. Hence the name 'Death' Valley. There must be better places to grow.

I am within walking distance of sand and native cacti, that eventually stretch into Death Valley and have camped in the park.

It should be overrun, with natives, who value the irreplaceable, natural, and cultural resources, here.

:elmo:

But, oral history changed, generationally, according to the records of ethnobotanists.

There is a rare breed of foodie that uses weeds for gluten-free flour, boutique soaps, and high-end confections.

The natives are typically in different stages of diabetes.

Visitors come from chillier countries, expecting a spa-like effect, and drop dead, every year.

idk if many of the Indians are actually acclimatized, tbh.

The lifestyle is typically to have an epic cable tv package and run air conditioning to death, in a doublewide mobile home.

If self-sufficient, they should know how to make that out of local materials and decorate accordingly. :awesomenod:
