Found a really weird ovoid today with a really sturdy, thick ring. Has anyone seen anything like that?

It was hard to get a good photo, but zoom in on that annulus. It's so weirdly thick and sturdy, it didnt bend at all when i pushed on it

Found some ovoids in the foothills of NC today. Hasn't really rained in weeks and I still found several patches in textbook habitat in just 15 mins of time I had.

I have to plan a 8 hour road trip to Ohio just to hunt for these again. Would week of May 10 be peak of season? Or should I wait for May 17? Or would that be too late?

Both weeks are prime. I find more in there natural habitat later in the season, and wood chips earlier. Its all a matter of rain at this point however.

Oh dang! I've been sort of nonchalantly looking for them around here (NC piedmont)when I've been out & about, but never really expecting to find anything (And I haven't).
This makes me want go hunt in a more dedicated manner now. They out there!

I’m beginning to think this is a problem. Essentially the entire forest floor is like this and I can’t imagine this isn’t fucking up mycelial networks.

All those holes have to increase evaporation, too. And you've got to expect some years to be relative busts.

Shroomhunts Nice work! Are those in a bag? If so, what did you inoculate with. I’m wondering if spores to pasteurized chips would work G
