South Texas mushroom ID? (pic)
    #2729053 - 05/25/04 07:53 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I'm curious if anyone knows what kind of mushroom this is. I know its not something to eat, but I see lots of them growing on the cowpies around the ranch, and I was curious what they were.

Unfortunately I don't have a spore print, or anything more than these pictures.

Typically we'd need all the info that is requested you provide (found in the sticky thread).

... But this case is different, you've got a mushroom that is very common and easy to identify. Your mushroom is Panaeolus antillarum. Not active, not edible. If you find more of these and take a spore print, it will come out jet black.

Some give aways about this species:
1. They're an incredibly bright white color
2. Black/dark gills
3. Grows on dung
4. Incurved margin
5. Weird black dots up near the gills on the stem.
6. Doesn't bruise blue.

If it matches all of those characteristics, then you've got 100% Panaeolus antillarum
