Outdoor grow bed advice

So after a bit of an absence caused by my soon to be ex wife I'm getting back into growing, problem is I can't grow inside due to my current living situation so outside behind my shed or in my garden is my only option as of now. I tilled the dirt down to 3-6 inches and cleaned out most of the leaves and rocks but am a bit confused on how I'm actually going to get it to start. I plan on either buying some pre sterilized spawn bags or using Uncle Bens rice packages to make the spawn as I need to be a bit stealthy but don't fully know what to use/do to spawn it in this 1.5x4ft space or the garden once it's fully colonized. Could I put down some kind of plastic barrier in the area then just make a layer of mycelium, put some Pre-Pasteurized Mushroom Compost on top, another layer of mycelium, a layer of Pre-Pasteurized Mushroom Compost and then top it off with some leaves? Then I plan on tilling one row about 8 inches deep in my garden and doing pretty much the same thing in that spot so they're hidden with all the flowers and vegetables growing and look a bit more natural growing there. Anything I should do differently or will this work out well? I'm getting 2 syringes of A+ spores in the mail on friday and 2 syringes of Ecuadors and a syringe of B+ sometime this week or next week, they were just mailed today so I'm guessing next week. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hey man, sorry to hear about your life circumstances, it can certainly get tricky at times.
It all depends on your definition of working out well. If you're happy with some fruits for yourself and some friends, you could pull something off with a little luck.
If you manage to get semi-decent spawn working with what you have your biggest problem is going to be dealing with critters tearing up your beds..
If I were in your shoes I'd line the bed with cardboard(moist of course) and have it in some type of raised bed setup, in the shade, with some wire mesh covering the span of the bed.

I wouldn't waste your time on anything besides Uncle Ben's.

I ended up making 18 whole oat jars that I'm going to inoculate in an hour or so. Might still do some uncle Ben's since I got a free syringe with my order today though

Ended up using whole oats, first time using grains so I'm a bit nervous but they looked pretty good in the jars. Inoculated a bit ago with A+ and Dancing Tiger Didnt use micropore tape or any seal on the holes cause its been a while since ive grown so I just covered them with a sheet of tinfoil in my cabinet and hope that works okay, some are left uncovered tho so we'll see how that works out haha. Worked out okay my very first time growing a couple years ago so I'm hopeful. Sterilized the hell out of the entire cabinet with disinfectant spray and 70% isopropyl alcohol so it should be sterile enough in there. PLan on keeping it closed for the next two weeks so nothing gets in and messes things up.

1. So you went out of your way to get spores, and were too lazy to inoculate them in a sterile environment? Starting off very nicely...
2. Some grain jars are left uncovered?? Is that right? If so you're a fucking mad man

I mean my first few grows did okay a couple years ago doing it that way, obviously had some contams but I was mostly going off what I remembered from that time and just forgot the tape lmao. I obviously need to reread some teks before doing another run of jars or a spawn bag if I can find one that fits in my pressure cooker.

And my environment was sterile, made sure everything in the room was disenfected with disenfectant spray and 70% isopropyl alcohol and had an air purifier in there for a day, not sure if having that makes a difference though. Wore a mask, steralized my hands and arms with iso, wore gloves and steralized them with iso, used a lighter on the syringe after each jar, and made sure not to leave that room until I was finished. Would putting tape on the jars now do anything or would it be pointless? And will 3m tape survive in the pressure cooker for future runs? Might just say fuck it and waste these jars with spores and redo them.

Was your first grow PF tek? You said this is your first time doing grains so I'm assuming so. I wouldn't count on any of these jars making it unfortunately. Maybe just maybe 1 or 2 with the tinfoil will but I really doubt it. The PF tek has a dry vermiculite barrier to keep contams off the actual cake. Even if you sterilized everything in the room there's still tons of contam spores floating around. Micropore tape does hold up in the pressure cooker but idk how many runs you'll get before it needs replacing. I use polyfill and it works for me. Also going spore syringe to grains is risky on its own because almost all syringes have at least some bacteria in them. If you've got more grain and the tape on hand now I would just redo the jars asap and try to grab a tub to make a Still air box. You can get away using a syringe but I would still expect at least some of them to contam.

Yes all my other grows were mostly brf jars and I got a little into popcorn for a bit before I stopped in early 2020. I guess I won't get my hopes up for these jars but I'll let them grow out and see if maybe I get super lucky. Gonna just buy some spawn bags with filter patches I found today that will fit in my pressure cooker.

Make sure you pressure cook them longer then jars I think most people do 2.5 to 3 hours for bags. I just run jars but I'd look around a bit and see what others say.

Ended up just spending $10 on the roll of 3m micropore tape (thought it'd be like $3 lol) and covering the holes on the jars with it, might be late to be doing so but maybe it'll help since they've been in a sterilized af small cabinet. The brf jars I have pressure cooking now are going to be taped as soon as theyre cool to the touch and I squirt some spores into em just to help the dry verm layer, or would that be pointless

Then again I also took them out of the cabinet to do so, guess I'll find out in 2ish weeks if it helped or not lmao
