What to with leftover substrate
    #27286607 - 04/29/21 01:20 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hey all, birthed my first tubs this week, but I have a bunch of 50/50 mix left over and not sure how to save it. I usually jar it up and PC it for 60 minutes when I have just a little left, but this is like 3-4 gallons worth. Any ideas gang? Thanks!

Maybe make an outdoor grow?

I take all my left over stuff and old substrates and toss it in a shallow hole in a shady spot in my yard

Sometimes it puts out!

I've tried the hole method I find the best thing to do is dump your old sub in a patch of weeds. Especially in the summer because the heat will dry it out the grass retains moisture and makes for a good microclimate.

i believe OP is saying they has coir/verm left over from when they spawned their tubs, not that they have spent substrate already colonized by mycelium

if you're just using coir & verm there's no need to sterilize it, as they are inert substances. you can just hydrate with boiling/hot/warm/cold water & call it good. i've never had leftover coir contaminate on me, even after months of just sitting in a bucket.just keep it in a sealed 5gal or tote & you should be fine. might dry out a bit if you let it sit for too long, so i'd recommend to mix it up & check for field capacity before you spawn to it again if it's been awhile.

Thanks guys, sorry for the confusion; Hazyhorse has properly answered this question I believe. Guess I'll just leave it in the tub it's in; will need it in a few weeks anyhow. Cheers!

I've frozen coir/verm before in a sealed bag with no issues. And then defrosted and used again as a casing for something else. Seemed to work fine!

It will be fine left in the tub. Keep it sealed
