Weird green-blue flakes contamination?
    #27285997 - 04/29/21 03:19 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hi, this is my first post. I'm still kind of a new grower but have already grown and harvested some cakes before. However, this new cake started to grow some weird green flake-like on the sides over the white mycelium. When I put it into fruiting conditions it looked all white and healthy. I have to say that I reused some wet perlite from a past grow. idk if that could be source of contam.
When I noticed the flakes I suspected of contamination already and lift the cake just to find a clear gel like substance at the bottom of the cake. Turns out that a big chunk of perlite was under the foil and when the cake sat on it, the chunk made a hole. So the base was days directly touching the wet perlite.
I wiped off the gel and make a complete transfer to a new clean container. 4 days have passed since I made the transfer and the green flakes kept growing and I am not really sure if this is trich or not.
There is no strange odor and not signs of mold (yet) that I can spot, but it looks weird.
Should I dump the cake already or what can I do?

Looking healthy

Looks like bruising. What is your fruiting setup and conditions for this cake?

It appears to me to be bruising from drying out. I'm no expert cake maker but I think you SGFC is too dry. How thick is you perlite layer?

The clear gel that you described happens when a sub of any sort is allowed to rest in standing water for too long. I've seen it get really thick without causing problems but have also seen contams come from the area.

Definitely bruising. Improving conditions will help with that.
