I agree! The ball leak proof seem a bit more sturdy. Thnx for chiming in again p9hu7!
I guess this new batch of rye has some grains cut in half making it difficult to not have quite a few burst grains.
I've read conflicting data on bursts grains. Seems like it's not a deal breaker for some but a pita to work with.

You're going to have burst grains when properly hydrated, its not a big deal, don't worry about it. Just make sure you give them ample drying time.
I always allowed my grain to dry overnight, then load and pc the next day.
Overnight drying isn't necessary, but I wasn't in a hurry at the time anyways and it guaranteed that my grain was gtg for the pc.
I used a section of door screen as a strainer for my kitchen sink, then I would carry the bundle of hot grain over to some towels layed out on the floor in my lab room and spread it out to dry. (When I used to do this kind of thing at home)
Or you can do it in a large sink, if you have one in your laundry room or something.

Those grains look on point from my house. 👍
I've been cheating lately in the hunt for ever less work. I'm using rye now and only doing 24 hour soak, no simmer. Comes out just right but they take forever to dry because they aren't hot from simmering. I've been just tossing a few spoonful's of millet straight from the bag and then pc. The millet takes up the extra moisture from undried rye and comes out super nice. Sorry I'm just thinking out loud and not actually helping again.

Why not just use straight millet? Less work is exactly why I switched to soaked millet.

I'm doing that as well. I just can't stop making a mess with it haha. Having dropped a jar of it made me want to shoot myself. I'm also not sensitive to many smells, but popping the cover on my bucket after soaking millet really drives a finger down my throat. Its weird I know.

Lol, yeah that shit can get everywhere. You definitely need a canning funnel to load jars. Bags are a lot easier to keep things clean.

p9hu7, your rye looks really perfect! You obviously have grain prep and wrapping petris wired!
Mine not so much. Lol
Hey smartattack. That idea of just soaking crossed my mind but being a noob I should just follow teks as I'm obviously not. Eek!
Thanks you both. I'm gonna let these grains dry well and hopefully not attract any insects or vermin jk!
I really appreciate the halp!

I was a wheat guy, but it's pretty similar to rye.

Hi Shroomery
grain jars after 2 hrs pc 15 psi vented 15 minutes. Cooled overnight + . Left jar is how it looked out of the pc. Right jar rolled a bit to distribute moisture.
Bit of condensation on the jars above the rye.
Thank u!

You can leave the jars in the pc to cool overnight in a sterile environment. Should be gtg

Also leaving the foil on can allow the filter to stay wet which isn't good if hanging out in the real world.

Also, if you allow them to cool in the open you'll need to give the jar a good spray or wipe with iso before working with them. By allowing them to cool in the pc they come out sterile and ready to work with as is.

Thanks p9hu7 & smartattack! The foil stayed on only for the photo on a wiped table.
Otherwise the jars went straight from the pc to the sab.
I felt the transfers went ok but I still have the shakes .
Thanks for help! It's very much appreciated!
Now I hope for the best. Success or not. I hope I learn or anyone else following.

I'll be following this... On my second go with bulk & also using agar wedges to rye; jars below are ~4 days old.
