That's terrible to hear. But it's not the strains responsibility to fight bacteria and contams in artificial cultivation, that's yours (to prevent)  It's not like any strain is recommended because it is contam resistant.

You probably are working with some bad spores and need to start over from a new source. You can't take mycoparasites out of a culture no matter how much you toy with it IME. Just gotta move on.

Ime ps. Natalensis has a more vigorous and aggressive mycelium making it more contam resistant. Almost like a wood lover.

Any energy mycelium has to expend attempting to fight off a contamination is less energy being used for fructification. Keep it sterile, keep it clean and keep it fast because fighting contamination shouldn't be the goal, outrunning it leads to much better results.

As an aside for lack of a bike tire and some seriously hurting hands anyone ever try using a rubber mallet for breaking up jar spawn?

Just take some cardboard and roll it upand beat the jar on it (on a sturdy table)

I have a bunch of rolled up cardboard taped together. It gets flat after a few thousand beatings and I add a little more. I can literally throw jars at it really hard without them breaking.

Who cares? I could call it an almost canopy, a nice cluster, a gay midget or a donkey fart. Technically canopies cover things and that's why we call a grow with such thick fruit covering that you can't see through it a canopy. Sometimes it's just a matter of letting it mature for a couple more hours.

Carboard whoopin stick, got ya.

A canopy is overrated in my opinion. With certain cultures I can grow a full canopy but it's all broad caps and thin hollow stipes so the yield just isn't there. On the flip side of that I don't really like a monotub with just a handful of fat blobs that weigh high but again the yield isn't there in total.

Tub of dicks like such is always the goal.

I beat jars on the bottom of my work boot.

That's how all my canopies have been lately. Thin and hollow. They do look cool though. I need to find the the right balance between spawn ratios. First time I ran RW, I went 1:2. Most of the tubs just blobbed up really bad. This time I went 1:3. Cull canopies but they're thin. Need to find the balance that makes the blobs just small enough that they still want to turn into mushrooms.

I will allow myself a small smile at your
'almost'.

Mushboy, second opinion -- is it canopy

So canopy is prerequisite for TC consideration?

I never said that, but it sure as hell tells a tale of okay growing. And species thriving in good conditions and possibly good agar work.

Just as proud of these Agrocybe:

Can someone explain to me how, when stabilizing a cross, F2, has the most genetic variation? Also, why can’t you just clone a fruit from F2 and then expect it to be stable from then on?

Also, what are you guys using reverted genetics for? Is there a good reason? Is it basically like an F9 that slowly became an F4 because of which fruits were printed?

Because recessive traits (leucicism, albinism, peen shapes, red spores, etc)
dont typically show themselves until F2. Usually when people are stabilizing
strains, they're focusing on recessive traits to stabilize.

Like if you and your wife have the recessive allele for blue eyes but you yourselves have brown eyes,
only one of your 4 kids will have blue eyes
and if they marry a recessive blue eyed person, it's likely all of their kids will be blue eyed.

Point is recessive genes dont show up in the 1st generation much at all but do in the 2nd.
