Bulk Sub FAE

Hi there, Ive been doing bulk subs for a while but the past year I've had an issue with fungus gnats finding their way into my bins. Normally I was just covering "shoebox" sized cheap plastic bins with boil and tossing the lid back on, It would have enough FAE for everything to colonize. I stopped doing everything for months in an attempt to make everything die off in the house bug wise. (I was lysoling, running an air filter in the room, not opening windows but I think the windows have gaps and still let smaller insects in the house)
This time around I've set up a bunch of larger trays. I'm trying concrete mixing trays from the home depot but I wasn't sure what to cover things with to prevent contams and bugs so i wrapped things in Saran Wrap and then tied them up in contractor bags.
What can I do to allow enough FAE during colonization of these large bins but prevent any little tiny pests from getting in? I don't know that micropore over the saran wrap is going to work out right. I really don't want little fungi gnats fucking all my shit up again, not this time. I was keeping things in zipper enclosed tents, I don't know how they even showed up and just ended up going wild the one day.
any input? Can I just poke a few holes and untie the contractor bags a couple of times, and then close the bags back up? I didn't want to go full monotub as I've basically got a giant walk in Martha with humidity sensors/timers/foggers and filtered air cycling on timers. Thanks! I'm confused cause I see some people saying with monotubs that the height/excess air space in the bins should be enough air for the colonization run, and i'm using larger containers with more airspace than shoebox bins previously.

Welcome mate
Try to trap them fuckers. Place some shotglasses with water, soap and some apple cidar vinegar or red wine. Fruity is important to attract them.
Also lavender works near the windows, that`s something they don`t like from my own experience.

ty, i'll have to try the sticky traps. It was just like...a significant chunk of bins that were looking to be 99.999 percent colonized and tossed in fruiting that then all the sudden BOOM SWAM OF FUNGI GNATS and it ruined everything/a ton of hard work. It's happened before with 1 or 2 bins, but this was everything, They didn't seem to care about the king oysters but everything else, shot. It was like "okay no green mold anywhere this time, not even one bin, but now..gnats! gnats everywhere!"

thanks I'll check that out!
I'm still trying to figure out if I've got enough room in the bins i already wrapped up and bagged or if I should be trying to re-wrap and add micropore over some pin prick saran wrap points.

I don't have all the answers about the little fuckers but I know what I've seen. In my experience, they are attracted to dying substrates and not to healthy ones. I've seen them in contammed tubs many many many times and never seen them spread to healthy tubs nearby. It is possible that you are dealing with something I've not encountered but I kind of doubt it.
As almost every post about contams ends....
Clean Cultures Perfect Sterile Tek Clean Spawn Good Growing Conditions These things combined equal success even in filthy environments.

TY, yeah ive been lurking around since like 2008 so I've drilled the sterile technique thing into my head, I don't really run into any issues with my isolated tissue samples on agar plates and I run some basic hepa filters and I know my autoclave is hitting the proper pressures/temps for sterilization and I use some nice probes for my pasturization.
I don't really post much. These are happening to verm/coir tubs that are just about ready to be thrown in the fruiting bin. I haven't had it happen with my masters mix bags/oyster species even in the same fruiting chambers.
Like almost entirely white colonized on the sides/bottom/center and its just a top layer thing when I'm checking on stuff. maybe the sides of the lids poked the foil and made a hole slightly too big? I'm loving the past 2 years more reliable no contams grainbags I've had going. Got so tired of breaking things up in jars and thwacking things against my hand or trying to cut stuff up inside.
I put out clean plastic sheeting and bleach everything down before I even prep bins.
So... saran wrap and micropore tape or what?
these little flies are a very recent issue/pest for me over a 10+ years of dicking around with shrooms sort of thing. It was bad enough to make me want to make an account somewhere I always wanted to avoid having an internet footprint, but fuck reddit.

I'm not going to speculate on what you could do with that set up because I've never fooled around with anything like it.
Do you have pics of your agar plates and or jars/ bags? My guess is that you have some contams lurking in one or all of those things. Again, it's just my guess.
