Any Shroomery paragliders about?
I used to paraglide 12 years ago and am just getting back into it. Plans are to push into XC over the next year or two, but currently just going through the EP/CP training again (UK).
I've just ordered a new ENA wing, Mojo 6, which should see me through my first year, then I'll look at upgrading.

I'm guessing we don't have many paragliders around here .
I signed off Club Pilot on Tow and have started converting to hills. Man, this sport is amazingly addictive. I feel the need to fly all the time. I'm definitely at the beginning of my journey, but I'm learning so much.
My ultimate goal is hike and fly. Get a micro tent, and then to do cross country, landing and camping on route.
Totally recommend it as an activity.

I was heavy in skydiving for close to 10 years so I understand the nylon addiction! Paragliding is something I have always wanted to get into, I am too far away from any real good areas to keep myself proficient I feel. Power paragliding is something a few skydiving buddies have tried to talk me into and something I am thinking hard about once the extra money is there.

If you're keen, you should check out to see if there are any tow places nearby. A few of my friends paramotor and love it. I'm only an hour or so away from flyable hills, so for now, I'm going to build my skills there. I'll consider paramotoring in the future though.

ahah, but the ease of throwing my full gear inc reserve (about 8kg all up) into my car boot and hiking to launch, it makes being overtaken that little bit easier to handle .

Yeah I get it,)
I've always been freaked out by downdrafts that'll screw your day quicker than mine.
Either way the sky is an amazing place to float around:)

Totally. There's lot to learn, and lots to learn about handling situations that screw your wing. Had my first 'incident' last weekend. Wind didn't come as forecast, so decided to do a top to bottom. Due to no wind, I needed to forward launch on a steep hill.
Launch went well, it was so steep I was in the air in 3 steps. But... I had a knot in the left control cascade which was deforming the wing, so making it turn that way. Not wanting to potentially move the wing towards stall, I weight shifted only to the landing field, and made my approach by weight shift. Good landing too. Not ideal, but was kind of a cool learning experience (I'll also do a full line check in similar situations in future).

We have a spot a couple hours away in the mountains but living 5 minutes from a dropzone, I know which one im going to frequent more. Im a nut about keeping proficient. 10 years in skydiving and having a few very skilled friends die because of not being proficient calmed my ego a bunch.

You can be a show off flyer or you can be an old experienced flyer....but you can not be both.
As we say at the top cheerfully. "Don't die"
