I was made aware that this is something that was going to be gradually introduced to people working for my company over time and after one-on-one discussions so that a relative yearly USD figure for ones position could be agreed upon and signed off on via a new contract. That was communicated to all people working for my company but based in the US a few weeks ago.
Next thing you know, I don't get paid a couple of days ago, and after raising the fact and waiting 48 hours for a response I'm told I'll be paid in USD on Friday.
Now I don't currently have a Social Security Number - and I am still awaiting paperwork for my Visa extension so that I can apply for one (I was only made aware I was even able to apply for one after my visa was agreed to be extended a couple of months ago) - so I'm a little concerned that this leaves me in a vulnerable position in regards to the US government coming after me for not paying taxes or something of the like, even though this situation has been forced upon me, and I doubt they'll have any mercy if penalties are involved.
If anyone could please offer any advice as to someone who is about to start being paid as though they are a US employee - after being here for years as a contractor providing a service only and being paid in his home country (the UK) - then I would be immensely grateful. Things like suggestions for a good bank account that provides easy international payment transfers, and any other advice one might provide say.. a kid who's just got their first job here (seriously, please don't feel anything would be condescending), then I would be really grateful.
I'll make my own inquiries as to healthcare and pension and such, but please do hit me with some basic AF advice for consideration in the meantime.
Thanks all you Shroomy shroomies!!
