So I have done many many grows but now this is the first time I'm birthing these in a closet lab. Will they pin ok in pitch black? They have already colonized the bulk grain/coir.

In my experiences, no. You need to get some light in there somehow. You'll get some to grow, but overall it'll be a sad grow with a hindered yield.

Hey bro. The closest I've come to this is, at one time, for stealth, I kept my fc in a cardboard box in a dark closet. I forgot to turn on the light for the full duration, came back to very odd stringy fruits. About ¼ yield.

I've seen grows in opaque monotubs with the lid cracked only just.
Apparently it's possible to have a culture not react badly to darkness. However they all do much much better with light. Like 6500k and lots of it. There doesnt seem to be any specific reason why they do better with light. Best we can figure is that it evolved over millions of years that way.

Mushrooms are phototropic as far as I understand, so yes light is important for the fruiting bodies.

Quote:

Phototropism is the growth of an organism in response to a light stimulus. Phototropism is most often observed in plants, but can also occur in other organisms such as fungi. The cells on the plant that are farthest from the light have a chemical called auxin that reacts when phototropism occurs. This causes the plant to have elongated cells on the furthest side from the light. Phototropism is one of the many plant tropisms or movements which respond to external stimuli. Growth towards a light source is called positive phototropism, while growth away from light is called negative phototropism (skototropism). Most plant shoots exhibit positive phototropism, and rearrange their chloroplasts in the leaves to maximize photosynthetic energy and promote growth.
