No there is really no sense in refrigerating dishes. They are either sterile or they aren't. Keep nice and sealed and they should be good for at least a few months.

i put mine in the fridge and they lasted for a year.
I keep some out and kinda just left them for a few weeks and they dried out
Depends on how fast your gunna use em
Also I keep agar dishes with myc on them for a year, I left some clone agar in the fridge over a year and was able to fruit them out no problem

Also, just keep doing agar transfers till you have clean growth. I had some dirty plates that around 4 transfers to clean up

Starting with premades isn't that bad. It just doesn't make sense to keep buying them. Agar is easy once you nail down sterile tek. I've had plates last a year just sitting on the shelf. If I really wanted to make them last I'd vac seal them. Refrigeration does nothing except keep the myc from growing.

ive been having serious contam problems. Entire plates being sprinkled w mold. Jars and tubs have been going left and right to bacteria and green meanie. Rly sucks but hopefully its just a learning situation and not that my space is just too dirty and drafty to be able to grow here correctly. Im not gonna give up thou, i have hope for these 6 plates and that my new SAB will change shit for me.

And that right there is what separates the men from the boys. Welcome to earning your stripes. You'll get it if you stick with it and listen to sound advice. I farmed a lot of fucking mold before I figured out how to consistently farm rainbows.
You're space Not Too Dirty to grow. It may mean you need to pay a tiny bit closer attention to some things but it won't stop you if you do things correctly. I've grown in the dirtiest of spaces. It's all about learning to use a SAB or flow, learning proper grain prep/ sterilization, having adequate filters, learning to recognize clean plates......

100%. I love this too much to give up. When I set my mind to something i get it done, have my whole life. This is like an obsession to me lol. I was hoping to be a bit more of a natural but the first canopy I get will be so much more earned and rewarding after growing all these incredible in their own way and intensely hated at times molds lol.
I appreciate that, im pretty determined to make what I have work.

You can. Don't worry. There is not really much "natural" about what we do. The magic is natural and is a beautiful thing but we are working in completely unnatural environments and procedures.

fridge helps them not dry out as someone said. if pouring and a little bac was in there fridge would help keep it at bay aswell.. best practice but not the end of the world

The fridge is not going to help a plate not dry out. That is simply a matter of how sealed they are and how much air is in the bag they are in. A refrigerator is often circulating very dry air how the shit would it keep something from drying out?
And you don't want the latent bacteria or mold kept at bay on your plates. You want to let that show and then throw the worthless fucks away not put your glorious transfers on a plate that will mold a week after you take it out of the fridge.

Indeed.
In fact, refrigerators dry things out faster than most ambient environments.

because of cool temps no light it does infact keep them from drying out.. ie partially grown out petris kept in fridge dry out far slower then left in a cabinet.. but yes wrapping is the key. less air movement less heat less light equals less evaporation. ie leave a mushroom in a fridge and on the counter.. one will turn to mush and other will dry up
normally unused cooked spawn is kept in fridge for this reason.. or has been reccomended for years... prob for a reason buut never tested..
anyhoo take it for what u will. https://www.wikihow.com/Grow-Bacteria-in-a-Petri-Dish#:~:text=When%20storing%20Petri%20dishes%20in%20the%20refrigerator%2C%20the,for%20as%20long%20as%20a%20couple%20of%20months.
bods tek and many agar teks reccomend refridgeration. but what does he know.. anyhoo not a huge deal as i said either way

We forgive you for not having a grasp of basic thermodynamics. It's ok.
Refrigeration drives moisture out of the air.
Put a few mushrooms in a paper sack in your fridge and they will dehydrate. Try it out.

lol yes refridgeration causes condensation and AC units dry out ur grow.. but other science at play promise thermodynamics will dry a mushroom out on your counter faster then in the fridge.. hint, reason dehydrators use heat..

Good point.
I usually put my agar plates -- the good ones I want to clone later -- into a virgin ziploc bag and seal it before setting it in the 'fridge. Don't forget to write on the bag with a Sharpie so you'll remember if it was a keeper. A few months might go by if you get busy. If you're forgetful like me you might have a hard time remembering the week after next when you pick it up and wonder what it's for.

It depends on the environment.

Quick google search
Refrigerators provide cold and dry conditions (32-40 degrees Fahrenheit and 65 percent relative humidity). However, most fruits and vegetables don't like this environment. Produce like it cold and moist

again, yes some fridges decrease humidity more drsticly then others mine has an option to lower humidity when it gets to high. however thermodynamics say it wont evaporate as fast because its cold.. place a ml of water in your fridge and ml on your counter.. counter will be gone in half an hour or so and fridge will last over night even though less humid in fridge... magic..
