Say it ain't so...Phish done.
    #2727893 - 05/25/04 01:43 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

An Announcement From Trey 05.25.04
Last Friday night, I got together with Mike, Page and Fish to talk openly about the strong feelings I've been having that Phish has run its course and that we should end it now while it's still on a high note. Once we started talking, it quickly became apparent that the other guys' feelings, while not all the same as mine, were similar in many ways -- most importantly, that we all love and respect Phish and the Phish audience far too much to stand by and allow it to drag on beyond the point of vibrancy and health. We don't want to become caricatures of ourselves, or worse yet, a nostalgia act. By the end of the meeting, we realized that after almost twenty-one years together we were faced with the opportunity to graciously step away in unison, as a group, united in our friendship and our feelings of gratitude.

So Coventry will be the final Phish show. We are proud and thrilled that it will be in our home state of Vermont. We're also excited for the June and August shows, our last tour together. For the sake of clarity, I should say that this is not like the hiatus, which was our last attempt to revitalize ourselves. We're done. It's been an amazing and incredible journey. We thank you all for the love and support that you've shown us.

-- Trey Anastasio

Terrible feeling here. I've been on and off the road with phish since '91 and they were always available. (Even during hiatus, I knew they were coming back). I really enjoy TAB and some other bands (moe., mmw, gba...) but none compare to Phish.

AW no No NO!

no west coast shows this Fall?

they should have @ least finished the year,
respect to fans... sheesh.

The Dead carried on...
i don't see why Phish can't keep things Novel,
being the genius musicians they are...

/me thinks they aren't happy with the Phlock,
or they simply no longer enjoy myself.

what HAPPENED?

I'm not the biggest Phish fan but I wonder if I should go along and see a show just so in 20 years if someone asks me if I ever saw Phish I'll be able to say yeah.

In denial here. They toured too long to just drop it. They tried this before a few years ago. I'm still thinking they will be back in 2 or 3 years.

Did anyone watch his interview with Charlie Rose...he was way too fucking happy after upsetting so many of his fans who have helped make Phish what they are..it really pissed me off, but anyway i do think that it was good that he did what he felt was needed, i just wish it didnt have to be that way...

Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas [2004]. Seven years later? Ten? It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main Era --- the kind of peak that never comes again. Burlington in the middle nineties was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run ... but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant....
