Psilocybe subaeruginosa outdoor wild cultivation questions

Hi Psycho Family
Native to my area in Adelaide Hills, South Australia (Southern Hemisphere if youre unsure) is approaching Psilocybe subaeruginosa mushroom fruiting season starting in around 8 weeks from now
Last season i made plenty of spore prints from wild harvesting
Im considering an experiment to wild inoculate some locations where they would be likely to grow
My technique im planning is to wash the spores off the cardboard prints into a bucket and then use a low pressure spray bottle and aim jets of spore laden water into suitable areas
My questions are
When would be the optimal, or at least desirable timing to do this? At the beginning of good rainfall? Doesn't matter? Day temps around 20 night temps around 10 dec C
And what are the triggers to stimulate germination? Nutrition? Temp? Moisture?
And what about location? Do the spores need to get underneath leaf mulch etc or is surface spraying OK as the next rains will settle the spores into suitable locations anyway?
Would the spores progress to fruiting in a single season?
Im also planning to test some large deep trays of pine needle and chip mulch which they tend to do well in locally
Any tips or suggestions much appreciated
Thank You Double Zero x

I would have started a month ago, and kept the spot moist for spore germination, and spread of mycelium.
Psilocybe subaeruginosa season is well and truly happening in Victoria, and SA shouldn't be too far behind.
pretty much as you have described, just spray spores over an area of prepared woodchips. I probably would have started even earlier with pasteurised woodchips in a container to allow good colonisation, and then spread that amongst your prepared bed.

Hey Double Zero,
Sounds like you're looking to start an outdoor patch. You may have much better luck germinating your spores and colonizing some wood chips to 'plant' in a spot you think they'd do well in... or a pot at home! ...I found this thread to be an excellent resource.

Good luck!

I like this thread. I also have a couple of questions.
How long do spores last? What is the best way to keep them/conserve them?
For example, should you keep a folded aluminium foil with all the spore prints in a dry place or is it better to add into water and keep the water in the fridge or freezer?
Does anybody know?

Keep them in foil, in a cool dark place. They can keep up to 10-20+ years AFAIA.

Thanks. One more question, do you know if getting a print from domestic growth is a good idea?
I am saying in terms of genetics, can you just use the same mushrooms forever?
Meaning, print => mushroom => print => mushroom => print => etc from the single print?

Why not, that's how nature does it.
I will say this however, try find mushrooms from a few different locations. In my experience over the last ten years creating my own wild patches, me and my best mate have noticed between all our wild created spots there is one particular type and shape that is distinguishable to us that when we see it we know they are super potent. its popped up twice now, and us regular trippers were blown away by it, i got trip paralysis at one point..
Anyhow, keep good journals and diarise your work.. If we had of done that a bit better, we might be able to work out which strain so to speak we used when creating that patch, and make more of them. Its been 4 years since we last got these bastards and i think we may have lost them being lazy and not rejuvenating old spots and so forth..
