The Archives Can't Help Me!!!

Hello Shroomers, I am a newbie. I have an interesting tale to tell and many problems. I am growing using the PF Tek and I am in the grow phase (cakes in the terrarium). To innoculate my cakes I bought mushrooms and scraped the gills out of the caps. My innoculant worked and I innoculated 12 cakes. Three of my cakes have made it to the terrarium. Because of the innoculant I used my mycelium growth in the jars was very light, the cakes were completely covered after 32 days incubation but the mycelium was not as thick in the jars as most of the posts I have seen here. My jars aren't contaminated it's just that due to my innoculant I am worried about my success. Is there anything I can do to help the mycelium grow better?

Are you certain you didn't just grow a ton of cobweb mold?

Raising temperatures to around 85 helps alot if they aren't at that right now, not much else I can tell you
Did you mix the gills in water and then make a syringe?

Yeah, I mixed the gills in water and made a syringe. I just checked them they are 48 hours into the grow phase and I'm not all that worried anymore because I now have new mycelium growth but I'm still worried about overlay.

If it looks like that, only thicker, it's cobweb. Except cobweb colonizes jars really quickly. What temperature did you colonize at? And for that matter, how did you innoculate? I'm almost 100% certain you aren't growing mycelium from what you've said so far, but if you could provide a bit more information on your process, I'll try to help you out.

Have you ever had cobweb mold? Do you know anything about it? He would know if that's what he had. It spreads overnight then turns dark grey after a couple more days. He would know.

Welll I hope you got myc growth but it shouldn't be light just cause of where the spores came from or if there were very few. That would cause myc to form on one small spot and then have to cover the entire jar, but it would be normal looking. Light myc sounds like web, the pic above is web at a mature stage but it also grows like myc, but light looking. Like you can see the substrate threw it really easy, like ghost myc or something.

If the jars are fully coated, I have a way of testing for cobweb mold (it's hard if you've never seen good mycelia up close). Open a jar at arms length and GENTLY sniff the air (whiffing a contam is no good for the 'ole lungs). A fully colonized jar will smell strongly like fresh mushrooms. Cobweb mold, on the other hand, will smell like dirt.
