this is spreading and growing in the middle of my friends casing (WBS and straw, cased with staight verm) In the process of first flush, have already picked some of the bigger ones off...

In the pictures it looks slimey, like a bacterial contam. Is that how it looks in real life? Also, is there a smell?

no, it is pretty wispy, it actually looks like cobweb, but he found out how to get rid of that, so he may try spraying some H202 solution on it and see what happens.

Definitely some kind of mold. Let us know how it plays out; You want to hope for as big of a flush asap, as peroxy-type treatments generally only stave off an infection. The mold will usually come back in time.
