Well...shit lol. I did not interpret it that way so now I feel like an asshole. I'll just let that be a warning to anyone that only wants to shit on peoples TEKs

yea it’s pretty awesome especially for people who could only sterilize a limited number of brf jars and then lost some to contam, they could do individual bags instead of two cakes in a 25qt sgfc lol it’s a very versatile fc

I got one of these going and another one i combo with the water tub…its a water (tub) bag hhahahabahbaahahhahahahahaha

also got another bag i try the p9 pack a bag….

I know both probably done before but it’s way funner to do things yourself than just read about it

Or people who only want some swabs/prints or are clone hunting..? If you don't like the method there's no need to shit on it just simply don't comment

It was a compliment. An uncomplicated method for people to grow mushrooms with minimal equipment. Some people only want a bit for personal use.

I didn't read it that way so I apologize for poppin' off at you like that. I read your comment again and it makes sense. I was just dumber than usual at that moment. I took it in a critical way, as in 'you'll only get a jar out of it using this TEK instead of going to bulk', not 'I hope people who are only trying to get a jar are reading this'.

Sorry to muddy the thread. That was not my intention in the slightest

It’s definitely a cool idea.. the one thing I’d be worried (only a little) about would be the wood harboring contamination but I’m sure you won’t have to worry about it.. if you can find something that’s not wood… maybe the little tri-legged pizza box thingy.

I've done this when I'd get done filling a mono and have some leftover and not want to the throw the extra away. I did it in qt size bags though. Worked out well enough.

One downside though is throwing away all that plastic. Guess you could wash them out though if you really wanted too.

contam was also a concern i had but also a reason I wanted to use wood is the secondary purpose, which is that I could use them to bottom water. If you put the toothpicks in water it will wick it’s way up to the cake. Kind of like those cotton wicks people use for houseplants.

You can definitely reuse bags.. I show how to clean them easily in the OP.

Ah.. gotcha on the wicking action

I once left a wooden spatula in a tub full of coir. A week later when I opened the tub my first thought was "HA! So coir contaminates after all" then I noticed that all the hairy growth was originating from the spatula  but maybe tooth pics are different, have no experience with those..

If acting as a wick is what you're after I would use kebob sticks or cheap bamboo chopsticks. The larger diameter will allow them to move more water, but ideally whatever you use shouldn't be lathed/tapered as that process will reduce the amount of xylem/phloem vessels. But, with all that being said my $$ is on the wood contaminating fairly quickly
