Yumm, looks like ice cream.
I'm using predatory mites for my thrips and I think the thrips are winning. Dunking them as seedlings was way more reliable of an approach. I'm using A. swiirski and S. scimitus. I haven't been able to identify a single predator mite so I'm not actually sure if they're living. They shipped overnight tho from a highly rated company. And indoors the ratios are insane, 1 sachet should cover my entire room. I have a sachet hanging from each plant - like 50 sachets in a 2x2' and I'm still seeing thrips, more now than a couple weeks ago. From this first trial, mites are meh.

Look out for signs of microscopic mites, they hitch along on thrips.

Bit of a retrospective post here. Did the chop on the two taller girls last week which was a few weeks earlier than I would've liked, but the weather forecasted for what was the past week was quite wet and constantly raining. Was worried about having the plants succumb to bud rot as the PB had already showed a few spots of stem rot. and I just didn't want a repeat of last year. So I sacrificed maybe 20-30% of potential extra yield. But secured some peace of mind that the plants were at least not constantly drenched for that week.
184 days from seed; Black domina looked like it was close to being ready anyway, maybe another week of two would've been ideal.

Sadly the Purple bud looked like it could've gone a few weeks more. But the fact that there was already mould on some parts of the plant and the oncoming weather at the time wasn't looking good. I think I made the right choice.

Yet to harvest the large cutting, PB' Junior.

Have half given up on the smaller cuttings. They developed thrips early on and just haven't taken off much at all.

That's it for now, Shroom season is underway. I look forward to starting another grow come spring and sharing it all here once again.

Just an update on P.B Junior. I ended up harvesting that cutting about two weeks ago, as it was showing early signs of bud rot. looked nice and frosty.

Can't wait to sample some this weekend.

It’s supposed to get down to 30° tonight. Can I leave my plants outside?

Does anybody grow in coir?
I’m just getting into growing weed and keep seeing conflicting information about feeding coir. The main site I read is dedicated to coir growing and says to feed seedlings once or twice a day and that the coir should always stay around 90% saturated.
But then on other sites I see people saying you can over water coir and that you should still let it dry out somewhat which makes sense to me cuz that’s what makes the roots grow right?

coir is super airy which makes it have to be hydrated more often.. most usually 2 watering a day and that will have the substrate getting a bit dry especially at the height of the flowering light on time.. there are specific nutrients made to fit a coir grow there was a big euro one im sure liz knows the name of as its escaping me atm but it came in an a and b/2 product kind of setup.. ive found that i start my seedlings and then younger plants in the coir "blocks" setup i found a few years ago that make it super easy to force you to maintain high humidity with watering the plants 2x as the high humidity is preferred for seedlings and younger plants anyway.. its a simple 2 part setup a seed plug and then a bigger block the plug fits into. thinks its called ez plug or something anyway everyone has a different taste and talent for how and what they grow with i ended up organic soil bc maintenance was slightly lower than other ways..

cannabis are thirsty ass plants too, i have some plants that are in pots that are a tad too small for them & if i don’t water them every 2.5 days they will wilt hella hard. i haven’t grown cannabis in coir but i have some experience growing other plants in it. those basil plants you can buy at the store in coco always dry out on me in like half a day if i don’t keep it moist
just out of curiosity, what has you wanting to grow in coco over soil?

Well mostly just because I like to try a bunch of different stuff and I have tons of coir around for mushrooms, but the massively increased growth speed sounds pretty good too.
I have four going in soil and then came across the stuff about coir so I started two more. I made a ton of mistakes but I’ve got everything sorted out now. Just got ffof soil today and finally have the right pots/nutes/meters/lights. The first couple plants started in pots that were too big and then my tap water has crazy high ph which was doing weird stuff to the plants but the last week or two everything looks pretty good.
I actually just topped the biggest one today. I’m planning on topping and lst one and manifolding one with the two oldest plants.

When I ran straight coir I had excellent growth. I just used gen hydroponics nut solution. Squirted like 2 tablespoons per gallon water into every jug I watered with using chlorine city water.

makes sense, i kinda figured it was a mushroom related thing lol. if i'm not mistaken, coir is considered hydro so i imagine the growth rate is really nice there! though you might be doing a lot of watering as the plant matures. if you want insane growth i highly recommend hydro. in my journal i have some pics of my current hydro grow & the growth rates are insane
your plants look really good!! i found cannabis a little tricky at first too but once you get everything into place it becomes so much easier. there's just a lot of info to read on it & i think it can be overwhelming at first. i'm by no means an expert now, but hands on learning taught me so much in regards to growing
my grows were weird early on too bc of PH issues. i had a shitty test strip that basically always looked the same color so for awhile i thought my ph was fine while really it was giving my plants weird deficiencies
i've really liked the fox farms stuff so far. a little pricey but when you're not growing 40 plants a bag or two will suffice for awhile
what strains are they??

Thanks man.
Yeah it’s way way more complex than I was expecting when I started. I was thinking I’d throw some seeds in a pot and water them
This is the stuff I’m using, pretty common I think.

There’s definitely a ton of information but that’s cool I feel just like when I was starting mush cult. Read read read.
They’re all regular layer cake X Chocolate nightmare except the back left is fem triple cheese.
I only ever grew a plant once in high school with cfls and I forgot how bad they stink. I wasn’t expecting anything noticeable until flower but my whole grow room has that sweet funk already.
I immortalized my first leaf that came off when I topped

I was told coir is soil-less rather than hydro, but it definitely drinks big and grows quick which seemed great for a beginner tryna just grow some plants. This organic business seems more sensitive.
In any case I found a pdf of the grow bible fo free with a little digging.
I just checked and I have 3/6 layer cake x chocolate nightmare sprouted.

I've got some seeds on the way. I plan on growing nothing but autos (outdoors) this year since I will likely be moving before the summer is over I don't have the time to finish photo-period plants.
I'll be growing...
Mango Smile ("Mango Haze" from Mr. Nice is the mother in the cross)
Creme de la Chem ("Stardawg illuminati cut" is the mother in the cross)
Skywalker ("Skywalker Kush" from DNA genetics is the mother in the cross)
Some will be in 30 gal fabric pots in organic/live soil, and others will be planted directly in the ground.

Beautiful plants Nicko!....That Purple Bud in particular is a gorgeous plant/strain.
I too always look forward to the mushroom season after harvesting my cannabis. I thoroughly enjoy the cycles of the seasons and what each season brings!
I'm on the flip side "up here"...I will be starting my cannabis plants very soon and I will have some cups of poppy tea to drink soon too (pods should start ripening up in the next several weeks).

I left them outside and they’re fine
I'm a bit surprised TBH.
I know it's not unheard of for cannabis to sometimes survive temps right around freezing, but I personally wouldn't have taken the chance lol.
Right on tho!

What breeder did you get the autos from?
I'm planning on growing some autos for my first time this year, I got some stuff from Mephisto and I plan on getting a couple from Twenty 20 Mendo.
Seems like autos are becoming a lot more popular over the past couple years or so. I've noticed more breeders are getting into working on autos, some that have been in "the game" for a while.

That's common stuff if you're a synthetic/salt/hydro grower. I've never touched a bottle of that stuff before.
It doesn't need to be complex though. I keep things super simple.
I more or less give my plants nothing but water for the 6 to 7 months that they're growing. I top dress the soil before planting and do so again once or twice through out the grow, but besides that and some occasional "teas" my soil and plants receive nothing but water.
