Right on time
I don't know how you guys do it but I've had no luck yet
Been searching on the mountain (hobart), actually went up today to my spot that fruited last year but nothing happening. Around 250-400m elevation.
To be fair there was only stuff growing during the first week of May. Too bad the forecast for this week in Hobart is sunny and high temps.

By now i would imagine the mountain is pretty well picked over. on my recent walks I have found holes everywhere where people have lazily removed mushrooms.
when I started 30 years ago, I started looking at the beginning of march, watch the season evolve, and then get the early harvest around mid march. times have changed and I imagine it is more like late march, early April now.
but if you get the rhythm right you find heaps.

Places like the [location removed ] definitely draw crowds, although the spot I visit was quiet and I was able to find plenty. Knowing the area as a local was a huge help as to identify good growing environments. 30 years ago the season would've started earlier for sure due to the climate being colder.
I'm a bit cluless on how people manage to find anything on the proper slopes of the mountain, seems to be such dense forest and the only success I've had is on grassy slopes before the tree line starts at around 300m or so on the Hobart facing side. I'd be interested on seeing some habitat pics from around the mountain where people have found them, particularly the thicker forest etc.

probably should not mention specific locations. anyone experienced with picking around hobart knows, but still shouldn't advertise it.
Also used to be local to that area. so many amazing out of the way spots! but the damage some years was incredible.

Hello.
I hope everyone is having a good year so far, and that we all have a great season hunting this year too . Good luck to everyone . btw, for those newer to the site, I have noticed that people in the South of Tasmania generally find (based on the past season threads) actives before people in the north of the state.

I use the said location as a marker for when the season starts as its one of the coldest/wettest areas in the state, even at the end of summer. 17th March is the earliest I've ever found subs up there(closer to the top might i add, 700-750m elevation, facing Kingston) but I know of stories of people finding them near a local waste dump in the same area, end of February some years ago.

First little find of the season today! Left a good few pins to keep growing, but found the biggest sub I've ever seen, and a little handful of others. Here's to a good season! Glad the shroomery is back .

I found some amazing wavy bois today, so similar to cyanescens it’s crazy, still subs tho. Out of 200 actives today, only these three were wavy, very strange as next to them were perfectly umbonate banana yellow subs.

Can I ask if you guys are mostly in the North or South? I'm up North and haven't had any luck as of yet, although I'm quite new to picking. Seems quite dry and still getting some quite warm days?

Found these whilst walking my dogs on a popular Hobart walking track, in some kind of mulch- they look different to the usual ones I find about the place... Were people everywhere and had to do a bit of a rushed pick haha

Tried my spots a few times but nothing so far. They are all east of Hobart and at sea level so hopefully this rain will kick things off.

Nothing at sea level yet, i have collected all of my specimens from spots above sea level. another 5-7 days after this rain and they should be around in the thousands..
