You maybe right about rice sticking if growing in jars but I use bags and its a non issue. I cook the popcorn and only add the rice after I turn the burner off. I wait 15 minutes than strain on a window screen. I think the only reason popcorn and rice aren't very popular in mush cult is because of the price compared to dirty animal feed grade grains.

fuck yeah! glad to hear it. i was doing no pours with them, as i figured the PC is gonna be more consistent than my sterile technique for pouring plates would be. can i reuse the ziplock bags then? i’m assuming they come sterile but obviously after being opened a few times they might not be exactly sterile even if they are just getting opened in the SAB

Lenz, I've learned to up my cold storage game after pulling plates out and finding contams. In the even that I have no room in the insulated lunch box, I do the following.

Iso plates in the flow
Wrap a good number of times in fresh tinfoil (this acts like the lunchbox)
Vac seal in the flow

It's over kill but assures that they come out condensation free and contam free.

To answer your question directly though, a good number of wraps in tin foil will help cut down temp swings and really drop condensation accumulation.

A little condensation on a plate isn't a worry in and of itself but if there is anything nasty in the plate it moves all over with the water. Even plates that went in clean can sometimes pick up something nasty while in the fridge if not protected properly.

Thanks for this verum.

I just put a bunch of plates in the fridge and did everything you listed here besides vacuum sealing them in a bag.

Will have to give that a go.

Do you store slants the same way? / do you have a solid culture fridge that you'd recommend?

I don't store all slants sealed but I do seal the ones that I'm really really proud of and don't want to lose.

I don't have a name or brand to give you. Any freezer less mini fridge will do. I'd go with my typical drop the coin on a nicer one method. I'd imagine they'd have less temp swinging but I don't really know. I'd do a little research before getting a new one. I still use the first one I ever bought and it's just some shitty one I found at a second hand store. I hate it.

How long can you grow out a culture without changing anything in your agar and grain prep?.. I had a culture just turn one year old and still going strong.

For storing cultures : Top loading chest freezer, but wired up to a PID temp controller. You can dial in the temp and the deviation and everything and it will keep very steady.

Brownbear/Quirk - Ahh, i see. Imma experiment with a few different things this time around. There's all kinda grains/seeds out there. Few years ago there was some hubbub about sunflower seeds leading to sub standard spawn. I havent done strait blk oil sfs b4 but i dnt see any issues with it in my current mix. Cant wait to get mine paws on a 25lb santa-sack of that egyptian wheat. Gonna make sweet tender love to it b4 mycelium gets a hold of it.

This shit's gonna look beautiful in jars

Awesome Verum thank you for the response!

What I've been doing is wiping with ISO, wrapping with extra cling, then sticking each into it's own freshly opened square ziploc before putting it in the lunchbox.

I think I'll probably keep putting them in individual ziplocs then wrap them in a shit load of foil in like stacks of 5 maybe? Need to not take up too much space either.

That sounds real nice sandman, bit out of my price range right now lol  :wow:

Finally nailed bags down thanks to natedawgnow's excellent bag tek. Right now I'm doing 3qt in my large bags x 6 in my Presto 23 and it's working very well. I don't see how it would be possible to fit 4qt per bag as I can barely close my PC as it is but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth when I can do 18qt per PC run. After g2g the bags end up being 3.5qt so that's great for a monotub. No fucking around with pre-sealing, post-sealing, tyvek sleeves or anything like that is the absolute way to go.

The only shitty thing is only being able to do bags for my last run of the day because of the need for a long cooling period of the PC, wrecks my production efficiency if I were to do it during the day.
Jars with 3/4 full give me 7.5qt of grain but only require 30 minutes to heat and vent, 90min at 17 psi and then swap once heats off and the Presto unlocks.

Hey guys, if these pics are good enough to ascertain something can anyone give me some advice on what’s up with my surface conditions? My pinset is dogshit. Also, this is pretty much the question I’m always asking, so is it more appropriate to put these surface condition help requests in this thread or start my own? Not sure about the etiquette. Thanks fellas

Maybe a little more fresh air but the humidity seems ok. When the walls are that saturated things should be fine. Did you case them?

Yup, spawned like 3 weeks ago with a top layer of coir. The lid has been latched the whole time. The fuzzy feet made me think a lack of FAE could be happening but I wasn’t fully sure.

I cracked the lid just now and let it air out for a minute or two before latching again. Not really sure there’s too much I can do at this point though.

Could just be genetics too man. It takes a a while of perfecting things to get full on canopy’s otherwise everyone would be posting them

Does taking spores from cluster fruits encourage good canopy genes?

It could. Way too many options available to guarantee anything though. Take two six foot tall, perfect physique, blond hair blue eyed humans and breed them. Is there a promise of an exact match? No? Are the chances higher than if you'd breed Black midgets? Yes. Do it for multiple generations and your chances of success increase with each generation. Enough selective breeding and you'll certainly attain relatively consistent success.
