But regardless, this is a forum for growing, not dosing, so just grow them for their beauty, and post some wondrous photos when they flower My bad for even exclaiming all that in the first place.

I'm excited this year, I don't know if I'm going to plant hen and chick or gigantium this year. Definitely shelving my hybrid for a couple years and get a good bank of isolated land races.

Nice! So my blend is of like 6, or maybe more, different genetics. The commercial jugs are assumably one variety. I will maintain my ongoing hybrids seasonally and just probably add genetics as I go. It's all pretty and I'm mostly interested in producing seeds for baking. These large jugs are only full cause I haven't been eating so much sugar. I intend to hustle some pound cake this year tho I also am bouta start making soap so the seeds can be used for that too.

I had given up on the seeds I threw down a month ago but three days in the 70s has brought them to life

I miss my poppies 😑, had a 15x20m bed full of Persian whites. Just beautiful white flowers with gigantic bulbs that ooze for days.

What happened to them?
Or is it just the end of the season around your part of the world?
15m X 20m, that's a huge plot!

"Feral Pandemic Poppies"
My flower patches are coming along. The plants in the first patch I started are already around 6 to 8 inches tall, others that I started later are still lil seedlings & just starting to develop their first set of true leaves.
I never picked up any of those "Black Swan" and "Lauren's Grape" seeds that I was planning on. Still not too late but def getting towards the end of the ideal window of time for my region. I really liked the "energy"/buzz that the Black Swan's had when I grew em' a few years ago compared to what ever variety I'm growing now (what I assume are Tasmanian?).
One of my poppy plants last year developed flowers with petals that had ruffled/frilly edges, it was the only plant with that trait out of dozens of others. I planted one spot with only seeds from that plant/pod to see if that trait shines through.

Got a 5'x1' plot of seedlings from a frilly black swan of last season. Some are green and some are purple. It's in a new spot that doesn't get quite full sun but so far they're looking good, gonna need to thin them out a little. Was smart this year and covered them in chicken wire. Our neighborhood squirrel digs all around the sides but wont enter into the fence, he might be stew before the season is over.

When do these things start getting bigger? It’s been two months since they sprouted and the largest one is maybe two inches across.

When they start to cabbage theyll grow very fast. I'm in the Midwest so I sow seeds in March and they're fully mature and ready for harvest by July. I cut the heads and stems off and bring them inside to bleed. Usually get a few more flowers per plant this way but it could be specific to persian whites.
IME second generation seeds are more acclimated. My bee colony is gonna be very happy if all goes according to plan.

Some of my seeds sprouted two months ago, and some are still popping up. The seedlings are all over the place in terms of size.

Try to thin them out, leaving a good 9" between the biggest ones.

Can you post some pics? I have never seen or heard of green poppies before!

They do take a while at first. They really take their time for the first month or two then they start to bolt/explode upwards around the 6 to 8 week mark. Tho one's climate plays a big part too, if it hasn't been warm in your area they'll really take their time until the soil/ambient temps are up.
You grew some last year, didn't you?

I usually sow in Feb and my plants are ready around late May to mid June. This time around I sowed the seed around the end of Jan/first week of Feb. Several of my plants already have buds formed on the tip of their stalk and they should bloom within a week, so a few of them will be "ready" & ripe in about 2.5 to 3 weeks .
When you say "cutting the heads", are you talking about the flower-bud before it blooms open? Or are you talking about the seed pod? I assume you're talking about the flower-bud because I don't think a plant will push up more buds/flowers after it has developed a seed pod.
Do you get much from letting a cut flower-bud "bleed"? I assume there would not be much material coming out of a flower bud and the material wouldn't be all that active.
I tried "topping" a couple of my plants last year before they bloomed just to see, I recall one of them definitely did push up several more flower buds. The variety I'm growing seems to produce 2 to 4 pods per plant naturally, though a few only develop one single pod.

I didn't thin out my flower patches all that great this year.
And I can tell that the soil in one of the spots I planted them is becoming depleted of nutrition since I've grown a flower patch in the same spot the past few years and haven't kept up on introducing more nutrition/NPK each year.
Most of my poppies this year seem to be a lot smaller than what I had going last year. Last year most of them were 4 to 6 feet tall with pods ranging from about ping-pong ball to nearly baseball sized. It's still a bit early to tell, but I don't think any of my plants will reach far beyond 4 feet tall this year.
This is likely due to the soil being depleted and not thinning/spacing them as much as I should have.

My squirrel would have completely dug those up in one day...
I meant the seedlings are green and purple. I do remove the seed pod and stem and get more buds. The newer buds are definitely smaller but it's almost like two harvests from the same plant, I know it sounds weird and unbelievable but I think it's just a matter of timing. Or like you said 2-4 pods/plant.
I get enough uncaramelized latex to fill a small jar by bringing them inside to harvest. I cut just below the collar and squeeze letting them sit in a Pyrex dish, then scrape when dry. I'm terrified of lancing outside, they're visible to any passersby and my neighbor's son is a state trooper. I get a nice effect vaping the dried milk but I have never tried the darkened residues to compare.

Some of these plants must have been growing the entire winter to reach that size by mid March. South facing patch of dark dirt, next to a brick wall, with subway tunnels and vents directly underneath creates a very toasty microclimate.
